Would’ve been better if there was sheet music and/or he would’ve chunked the parts with zero ornaments first, and then watered down the ornaments as rudimentary scaffolding before doing full pure composition with intended ornaments

Sholem aleykhem, Bob. While I was playing this again for my Yiddish Club, I noticed the woman who closes the window (1:46-1:57). Is that Shura Lipovsky?

No, the woman was not Shura.

What a thrill to find Bikel performing in Yiddish and recorded as live video! I'm very grateful that so much Bikel music is available on KZbin, but until now I'd found only his studio albums. Except for an excerpt from Fiddler and one of a balalaika band that brought the elderly Bikel up from the audience to sing and play with them, I hadn't found live Bikel music videos. (There are interviews.) So this is a real metsiya and an oytser (a find and a treasure). Bikel (1924-2015) would have been about 87. BTW, the poet and composer, Mordechai Gebirtig (1877-1944) was probably the most prolific and widely sung composer of folk-style Yiddish songs, although it is unlikely that he knew how widespread his songs were. The Nazis killed him before he knew, so his renown was posthumous. Thank you, Bob, and God bless KlezKanada.

In 1964 a Brooklyn bread company, Levy's Jewish Rye, began an ad campaign with the slogan "You don't have to be Jewish (to love Levy's real Jewish Rye)" -- the slogan is still well know today and applies to music as well. So welcome, theantimatter, and here is another applicable "Jewishism": ENJOY!

English Translation of Yiddish Lyrics: You are blonde as a cornstalk, beautiful as the sunset. Lead me over mountain and valley, and I'll follow you until we part. At parting, in the rosy sunset, her lips were like carrots, her eyes full of tears. It was better to be silent. Listen, maiden, to my wish. In the rosy sunset, Swear to me as the sun shines- that you'll be forever mine; and, she so swore. As she so swore he blushed,- turned crimson like his desire, turned crimson like the sunset, behind the yellow corn. Amid the shepherd's whistling, the sunset was extinguished. And deep into the sky, the moon like a sailboat appeared It followed them, hung the stars over them and the trees on either side of them were like the poles of a wedding canopy.
