My first time to grow black eye peas. They are doing good. I also planted Monte Carlo Pole beans. And they are not doing so good! They bloom, and make a bean (no pod) and I only have a few, with very small beans! And hints, for my Monte Carlo pole beans? I won’t do them again!
@texasvictorygarden70242 ай бұрын
@jonilikens8184 If the flower appears and then you do not get a bean producing afterwards, it may be that it is not pollinating. Peas are self pollinating, which means the male and female are in the same flower. To help the pollination rate, you can lightly shake the plant while the flowers are in bloom.

That's a stupid idea. First of all the fan does not have 5 fan blades to be able to kill a lot of mosquitos and 2nd of all th fan blades are metal and metal is very dangerous . I would rather use stirty high quality plastic instead of metal because us much more safer.
@texasvictorygarden70243 ай бұрын
The fan does not kill the mosquitos. The mosquitos are caught in the netting and then you exterminate them. The purpose of the fan is to pull in mosquitos.

What about adding bait, Something that produces carbon dioxide. I think active yeast sugar and water will do it.

That makes sense. I guess you could put the CO2 source near the fan intake.

Do you think mosquitoes survive going through the fan? The mosquito net seems Overkill.
@texasvictorygarden70242 жыл бұрын
I am not sure of how many survive going through the fan. Some do survive, as they are still moving on the mosquito net when I take it off the fan.

have you ever presoaked your beet seeds or would you recommend this or not. I have tried all kinds of ways of growing them and so far nothing has worked. Very good video BTW
@texasvictorygarden70242 жыл бұрын
I have never tried presoaking beet seeds. However, if you start them in seed starting mix in the cells to get them to seedlings before planting them it is similar to presoaking. You have to keep them consistently watered before they sprout. Once they sprout you need to keep them under grow lights for at least 6 hours a day and if possible have plenty of air circulation or you risk them dampening off. You can grow them, it just takes trial and error sometimes. Even though I have been gardening for years I still run into issues growing plants I have grown before.

Awesome. When is the best time to plant beets, here in Texas?
@texasvictorygarden70243 жыл бұрын
For southeast Texas plant from late September to mid November. You can also plant in February unless you get a large frost like we just had. This last frost killed all of my beets.

I would be interested in knowing what kind of broccoli you grow and when do you start it? I'm not a native Texan and I never thought broccoli would do well here, so I never tried. I don't do many hybrid varieties, I'm more into heirlooms. So I am venturing into the world of hybrids and found one hybrid variety that says it does well in the heat...but I would rather know the variety from someone that actually grows it here successfully. Thank you!!
@texasvictorygarden70243 жыл бұрын
Broccoli does grow in Houston. However, you have to plant between mid-January and mid-February. I can't remember the variety I grew every time. One of the varieties is Di Cicco. Usually it gets warm fast and a lot of broccoli I harvest is more of a broccolini (small skinny broccoli).

Hi! I just subscribed. I was watching an old Executive Gardner Video and saw your comment and your channel name caught my eye. I live just outside of Houston and am always on the lookout for Houston area gardening channels. We will be rebuilding our garden. Our raised beds rotted badly after Harvey, so we will be using cement/cinder blocks for a more permanent garden. Will also be making the beds taller, so I don't need to kneel on the ground (just getting older). I'm also into square foot gardening, so I will do a little binge watching of your past vids.

So after you pluck them they dont grow no more?
@texasvictorygarden70244 жыл бұрын
Yes, once you pull up the beet root they stop growing. If you want to just eat the greens for awhile before you harvest the beet root you can cut off a few of the outside leaves at a time. Make sure to leave at least 2 to 3 leaves in the middle so that the plant can continue to get sunlight and photosynthesis through the leaves. You should be able to get lot of greens off of one plant.

Thanks for watching. I give the beet seedlings a liquid fertilizer after I transplant them into the garden. (usually Miracle-Gro www.amazon.com/Miracle-Gro-Performance-Organics-Purpose-Nutrition/dp/B07L8TBTVV ) At the same time or shortly after I have applied the liquid fertilizer I will put out a slow release fertilizer to feed the beets throughout the growing cycle (usually Osmocote ). It is also important to have loose soil with compost in it. I use a lot of worm castings from my vermicompost.

@texasvictorygarden70244 жыл бұрын
I believe half of these were new seeds and half were from seeds I had saved in 2016. So, the seeds would have been about 3 years old. The germination rate was better on the new store bought seeds, however I did have a lot of the old seeds germinate.

How many month you have to harvest?
@texasvictorygarden70244 жыл бұрын
You can usually harvest beets 60 days after planting. However, there a lot of factors (temperature, fertilizer, watering, sunlight) that determine how fast beets grow. So, it could be a little more or less than 60 days.

Are the black eyed peas toxic to consume when raw?
@texasvictorygarden70245 жыл бұрын
Interesting question! I had to research this question, as I have never thought about eating them raw. Apparently, the lectins in raw black eyed peas can be toxic. So, make sure to cook them. "Beans contain lectins, which are toxic and cause inflammation. Lectins are proteins found in many foods. The lectins in raw or undercooked beans can be harmful. Properly cooking beans or buying canned beans eliminate the potentially harmful effects of lectins." -Colorado State University College of Health and Human Sciences://chhs.source.colostate.edu/myths-about-beans/
