What dates did you take this trip? It says Feb 2016, but you clearly rode during the summer, late spring or early fall since it got dark at around 7 after you left Galesburg, sunrise coming into Barstow and you arrived into LA right before the Coast Starlight’s 10:10am departure

When you live next to the railroad track in the winter and because it's and it becomes foggy the train lays on the horn to let anybody who's coming through the fog know that the train is there because it's foggy but the people who live next door to it never hear it anymore because they tune it out

Single-ride tickets are $2.50 and are valid for 2 hours. Day passes cost $6, and a Regional pass (which covers the whole DART light rail system as well as Trinity Railway Express, TEXRail, and the DCTA A-Train) is $12. In 2025 DART is proposing a fare restructure, making the single-ride tickets a flat 3-hour pass for $3.

Hey Bobby, I got a question regarding iais 7081. Why does the locomotive have 2 whistles, and why are they both used?

One of the whistles is its original from China (heard at 12:10 in this video), the others were added after the engine arrived in Iowa. I'm guessing the use of each whistle is dependent on the engineer's preference. 7081 (and 6988) also have horns that are used from time to time. I believe this is similar to the "fog horn" on some American steam engines like SP 4449, where in some instances the horn is used for safety purposes.

The locomotive driver should be sounding the horn *continuously* from about 300m before the crossing, not just short bursts.

There should be full gates on every railroad crossing, similar to the crossing gates in the UK in the 1950s and 60s. Once closed, there was no way to get around them.
