The whole Dorothy Delay thing is a cult. Same with Galamian. This student really doesn't get that there was nothing there. No real teaching. Just lots of manipulation to please a fake authority, who could barely play herself.

Sasha is a remarkable young man. It's such a privilege to listen to his thoughts as a young virtuoso. The world needs inspired musicians like Sasha. A joy to listen to and I hope one day to hear him live in the UK. Perhaps the Edinburgh Festival.

These interviews always give something to ponder…Interesting what he said about memorizing and Misha Maisky. By the time I graduated from high school I had learned and memorized most of the standard repertoire. That music I can still play memorized in my sleep! Now that I am older and performing more living composers, I find myself asking is it now harder to memorize at my age? 🤔 I think it may be because after all these years of experience, I am learning and refining so quickly, that it is not quite enough time yet to also memorize. My learning is that much quicker now. Could that be the case with Misha, as Mao mentioned?🤔 Anyway, these interviews are always very thought provoking. Thank you for that!

It’s true. I learned and memorized most of standard piano repertoire before graduating from high school. Those pieces, even without practicing, I can play in my sleep. Now at much older age, I have been playing living composers and find myself thinking, are these just harder to memorize?🤔

Zsolt,,interesting vid. My perspectives of Maxim. He was very well recorded early on his career,he then seemed to take a break but is now returning on his own terms. An interesting view of so many artists who got caught up in the changes of the recording industry.

Maxim becomes radiant when talking music. His eyes shine! There is not even a skerrick of boastfulness about him; just genuine humility in the face of what he experiences as great privilege. He is also a thoroughly kind and honest person who is good to everyone. Marvellous interview. Thank you, Zsolt.

Zsolt describes the humor in Maxim. And I’m hearing, from Maxim Vengerov, tremendous gratitude behind his performing and that music is “about sharing first of all.” Sorry to post several here; but I was blown away by what I took away…. From this extraordinary interview.

“When you play Beethoven, you cannot put yourself first.” Music. “Offers audiences time travel.” And this; “When we have the instabilities in every field of our life, I feel ever blessed that I’m allowed to go in front of audience and offer this amazing (time) travel and experience for people that need it, using greatest music by legendary composers. And this is blessing of my life.”

Thanks for bringing him on! I watched several of his master classes and speeches on KZbin, and was especially impressed about the one regarding Beethoven's so-called "Moonlight" sonata. What he told the candidate there was a big help when I finally got my act together to learn it myself (at age 61; I am not a pianist but a [now retired] organist - piano is my secondary instrument).

Love Maxim, every musician or music lover can learn a lot from his masterclasses. I hope we will get to see Simon Keenlyside on this series - I think he is very similar to Maxim in his approach to interpretation. Come to think of it...most great musicians are.

Great interview..i remember how impressed I was with Amadeus in 1982! But the film being annoying kicked my critical faculties into play and I realised Schaffer was not interested in historical accuracy..brilliant playwright Equus Lettice and Lovage Amadeis the Royal hunt of the son, Yonadab. Shaffer also gets Mozart's attitude to death wrong as well as doing a hatchet job on Constanzas character and competence.

Wow, Zsolt, another life deepening interview….. I know the secret is not ice cream, but, how musicians finally, after years of discipline, fail to repress their trueness…. In their music, because it must come out; the joys of hearing this are huge. Thank you to both. So glad to see these interviews continue. They are life giving. ❤
