Thank you for an informative book talk. One of the holy trinity of the European enlightenment was Francis Bacon who was a Scotsman. The other two were John Locke and Isaac Newton. Bacon promoted the idea of fearless inquiry of knowledge without bowing down to the prevailing judgement of time which was Catholic church in 17th century. David Hare must have been an ardent follower of Bacon's teachings and felt a sense of mission that he carried out in his own life.
