Sounds like both John and Paul doubled their parts. So there are two lines, but each sound twice. Really gorgeous! ❤

This version lacks energy and pace. Way too tentative. No harmony

This is one of only four examples of vocal oblique motion recorded by the Beatles. John is staying on a steady pitch in the refrain while Paul is up and down the scale hitting notes that harmonize with John's root drone. The only other oblique motion sung by John is in Because and it comes in short bursts on various one syllable words in the lyrics that Paul and George sing as three or four note runs around him. The earliest use of oblique motion in their record catalogue is the "Yeah Yeah Yeah" in She Loves You. Every yeah out of Paul's mouth is on the same note every time while John and George change their pitch on each one. In This Boy Paul and George sing staandard three part harmony with John in the verse but they stop and take steady pitches in two part harmony with when John goes into his vocal crescendo carrying the lyrics by himself in the bridge section.

Love the old videos, Galeazzo! I actually think that the falsetto part on the word ''mine'' at the line ''And I held her hand in mine'' is sang by John and the lower harmony by Paul (they switch I think). But amazing video! Love it!

Is this the real life? Is this just fantasy? Caught in a landslide No escape from reality Open your eyes Look up to the skies and see I'm just a poor boy I need no sympathy Because I'm easy come, easy go Little high, little low Anyway the wind blows Doesn't really matter to me To me Mama, just killed a man Put a gun against his head Pulled my trigger, now he's dead Mama, life had just begun But now I've gone and thrown it all away Mama! If I fell in love with you, Would you promise to be true And help me understand? 'Cause I've been in love before And I found that love was more Than just holding hands. If I give my heart to you, I must be sure From the very start that you Would love me more than her. If I trust in you, oh please, Don't run and hide If I love you too, oh please, Don't hurt my pride like her. 'Cause I couldn't stand the pain. And I would be sad if our new love Was in vain. So I hope you see that I Would love to love you. And that she will cry When she learns we are two. 'Cause I couldn't stand the pain. And I would be sad if our new love Was in vain. So I hope you see that I Would love to love you. And that she will cry When she learns we are two. If I fell in love with you.

Lennon and JPM certainly could harmonize brilliantly. Trouble is, that's all they did. The backing track which is being piped in via headphones was all done by sessions musicians. They don't record by standing there playing their instruments and singing. It was broken up into sections. They learned the words, written by someone else. They had to learn the words, the phrasing, the breathing etc and then when they had the song down pat, they cobbled it together and mixed it all down. Manufactured band, just like many others working to a Tavistock script. Meteoric rise from a grass roots pub band? All engineered to be spectacularly successful from the get go....
