A bit of an enigma, few folk have heard of him, but his songs are unforgettable, very catchy

I'm 58 now. I remember seeing this first run as a small child. I've watched it many times since with Ringo, and Alan Thick narrating. I still listen to the sound track LP/CD often. Both are great works by the amazing Nillson!

When you ran off the list of the major characters from the original, you left out Anne Lockhart's Sheba. Maren Jensen had already left the show by that point because the role of Athena had already been diminished once it was clear she couldn't hack it as an actress.

This was really good!! I love how you did this! I'm going to check out some of your other stuff. You brought back a lot of memories for me . I was just a little kid when this movie came out and I always loved it . Your little documentary was awesome! Thank you!

Thanks , glad you liked it! Sorry about approving your comment so late, I was in the middle of my monthly chemo week when you posted. I should be able to release new episodes on a more frequent basis in 2021; I’m in the middle of several other projects (along with the chemo) that have kept me from producing Alterpast.

I was lucky enough to catch two Harryhausen Sinbad movies in the theater. Golden Voyage of Sinbad and Sinbad and the Eye of the Tiger.

A lot of uneasing, ahead of their time movies like Americathon came out from the early 70's to the early 80's. THX1138, Hellstrom Chronicle, Videodrome, Scanners, culminating in the cyber-punk fururistic masterpiece that was Blade Runner bookending THX1138 in that same roughly 10 year span with similar great special effects and ahead of its time dystopian themes. After that, it was all downhill for American exploratory/experimental cinema.

One film you didn’t mention was Man Who Fell to Earth, another favorite of mine that I’ll probably do an episode on sometime. But I agree with what you’re saying. I saw most of those movies in the theater when they came out, and they greatly influenced me. There are some newer sci-fi films that have impressed me, namely Under the Skin and Ex Machina. Thanks for your comment!

Read in “Future Noir” Hampton Fancher, screenwriter, named an early draft of Blade Runner after this book. Couldn’t acquire the naming rights and moved on to naming it Dangerous Days. This all before Ridley Scott was attached to direct.

You're seeing the results of KZbin's endless dinking with parameters. They've now reduced the amount of time that certain links can be shown at the end of a video. When I originally made this episode the links to subscribe and play the "TV episodes" playlist were visible as the labels you see on the screen are shown. I don't like KZbin's built-in editor, which would be the only way to now reduce the length without losing all of the episode's stats and comments. Thanks for the heads up!

Dean Torrence of Jan & Dean did the Album cover and also the Claymation.
@alterpast
@alterpast 4 жыл бұрын
I don't know about Dean Torrence doing the design, but there's no claymation involved in the cover or the accompanying comics, not to mention the film which was produced completely in traditional 2D cell animation. The album cover is actually needlepoint, I ran across the name of who did that in my research, which I can't remember, but I'm pretty sure it wasn't Dean Torrence. Thanks for your input though!

@@alterpast If you look on the lower corner of the cover. It has a KT. Kathy Torrence Dean's sister. Kitty Hawk Graphics was Dean's Album design Co. The claymation was done before and was the inspiration. It is shown as part of a special package on it.

If the original premise had been kept it might have been worth while but a combination of really bad acting,woeful scripts and the crime against television called "The Super Scouts( why expand this shit into a two parter) and TV Executive meddling meant even Donal P Bellasario couldn't save it. Dr Zee was fucking annoying and Lorne Greene looked uncomfortable and like a broken man in every episode. He had been a big promoter and had confidence in the original Battlestar Galactica but I think he knew the series(Galactica 1980) was crap.

The fault lies with ABC and how shallow and out of touch network execs are when it comes to programming. BSG/Classic should have remained a mini-series during '78-'79, then made into a series '79-'80. The SCI-FI channel learned a valuable lesson with the reboot. A mini-series first: see how it fares, then series based on fan/audience response. One can only imagine where BSG Classic would have gone if allowed to flourish. The other issue was Issac Asimov called BSG Classic a "STAR WARS rip-off". STAR WARS was space fantasy akin to Flash Gordon, BSG Classic was science fiction along the line of Space 1999, Star Trek and Buck Rodgers. The 1980 premise had potential, but got hokey in the end. But ABC should have never cancelled in the first place. . .

I have Sirius XM radio in my car. Classic Vinal which is on Channel 26 does this all the time. They play these songs over and over again.. They overplay them. It drives me crazy! Some of these classic rock songs that are also southern rock are depressing and overplayed.

It really was incredible to see on a big screen back in 1973, my brother and I were enthralled when we saw it back then. Judging by the traffic for this episode, many others love this movie as well; it's by far my most popular episode yet.

the 'turning uniforms white' thing was not new. When the Light Ship aliens transported a Viper pilot, their uniform turned white. I like this little nod to a detail from the prior show.
@alterpast
@alterpast 6 жыл бұрын
I didn't intend to imply that they were a new thing. My point was that in the original series there was some kind of logic to them turning white, i.e., the alien ship. In G80 there was either no logic, or the logic was tenuous.
