I tested it out with Windows 11 and I installed and used linuxmint LMDE 6 "Faye". The performance was better on the linux side of things. A lot more smooth. I played on both windows 11 and LMDE 6 "Faye" games of hearthstone, Minion Masters, halls of torment. The hearthstone game on both sides had little lag. But i do not know because of the game or the hardware. Did some video editing on the sytem using openshot. Editing videos at 1080p at 60fps. Both ran Smooth and Very easy to edit. Time for rending just depends on the time of the video. It will may very. Browsing watching videos at 1080 60fps smooth like butter. No drop frames at all. If you can find this machine at a right price around 60 dollars or under. It is a good deal for a cheap build for basic everyday use and light gameing. The cpu is very strong and holds its own. The gpu side of things well they lack horse power. The cheap Gt 1030 GDDR5 Gpu Helps out a lot. Improves it's performance over the igpu. It is possable to find a better gpu if needed. The max power use of the gpu is 30w tdp.

I made a archive of the usb drivers that helps the mini disc work on the website to make the writing possable. here is the link also you will find the links to the sites for the drivers and some info on the driver. the other sidte will take you to the mini disc site for reading and writing for the disc that you need to do. Glad to see some M4800 content. I went down the rabbit hole too. Currently running POP_OS Cosmic alpha with a T2000 QMAX I had shipped all the way from Australia last spring. Super happy with the performance and OPTIMUS works flawlessly. Combined with Proton, Steam is a dream. For what I have in this laptop, it is a super solid platform with tons of I/O ports. Super happy with the results! I just wish I had less issues with windows. I wish we had a version of coreboot that was compatible for a clean non .inf modded windows install. I hate artificial hardware locks. I dont really want to game on windows, I just want to geek out with all of the benchmark software!

I currently have a M2000M but I would love to upgrade my m4800. Recently I also installed a ssd because it looks like its the faster slot that we can use on this workstation, did you know if there is something else we can upgrade ?

Dell ran the Express card bus through the sata chip controller. so the speeds only get sata III Speeds. But they do sell Usb 3.0 card for that slot. if you needed more usb ports.

Oh yeah. If you do the Gpu Mod. Make sure you have only a 1080p screen. I had a 4k Screen and never turned on. Because what is going on is the igpu from the cpu controlls the screen to turn on and all the hard work like heavy work loads of graphics will be the gpu that you modded in. Drivers for the Gpu will be loaded manually by going in device manager, Display adapters, Click on update driver. select the folder where you put the drivers from unzipping them from the package from Nvidia. you should come up with a screen and you choose have disk. then you with browse for those driver files. then choose the one driver that is needed for your gpu. you might find two of the same ones. I tryed both and both worked the same.

Yes great little pc. I use open shot to render my video. actually it was this video. 1080p 60 frames. Took 18 minutes. It surprised me very much.

I understand your issue and frustration with Linux, but if you keep catering to the companies what are unwilling to support a free operating system, the world wont become a better place. It is a really bad situation.

sad to say. it runs. but dell routed the pcie slot through the sata chipset. so it only runs at sata speeds. so the upgrade was useless in speed.

as long as you have a usb 2.0 port or install from optical disk i have found the installs to go quite well, 7 doesnt have native usb 3.0 drivers so there it struggles

just a old geforce 7800 gs and it is not for this build. it was just for testing purposes and maybe some times a retro like build with xp or other os. put it was 30 dollars

Even if it's low quality, airflow is the biggest problem with this case by a long shot. In the future, you can only use parts that consume basically next to no power at all or it becomes an insane hotbox that will shorten the lifespan of all components and cause parts to thermal throttle in high-stress situations like playing modern games, which will not allow you to get bang for your buck out of other more expensive components in your computer. There are better pink cases that would cost a little bit more, maybe even on Temu but I have not looked up their case selection. I would not recommend this case, even if you don't care about build quality and prefer the pink color theme unless you really know that you will never need better CPU or GPU in your build.

What a quaint little case. With many people opting to use high capacity SSDs instead of 3.5" hard drives I'm a bit disappointed that these kinds of short depth ATX/mATX cases never really took off beyond cheap models like this and others for more niche small(er) form factor enthusiasts. Though I'd bet ridiculously long graphics cards becoming the norm has a big part in that.
