Its unusual to be able to play both classical and jazz that well.

His great command of classical music and tone give him a added dimension allowing him to cross over to traditional and contemporary forms with great ease. His technique and intonation is flawless in any genre.

Mr. Laws is a hero among flautists. Others also have great technique, but his musicality is unique and sets him apart. I wonder what kind of flute he plays?

Brilliant. Utterly beautiful. I was in Brazzavile n the Republic of Congo and a guy came to play flute for tips. I said he was like Hubert Laws and he was so excited.

I heard about this tune from an avid jazz follower awhile back...and here it is years later I am now having the pleasure of listening to it...and Admittedly I'm saying, where have I been ...it's a tune that immediately has your attention: it's a light rhythmic but not imposing tune yet evocative and surely earns its title...The Land of Passion... thanks sir....peace

Sounds so good concerning how long ago this was the way I started liking Jazz listening to my daughter playing the flute while all the others was doing their thang...I fell in love with Jazz band from that point I never missed a Jazz concert From college until today.

Hubert may have studied with Julius Baker... But Julius baker was Julius Baker. People seem to forget that Hubert Laws was the only Jazz flutist Jean-Pierre Rampal chased after and correct his playing. If you listen to Hubert's entire discography, you can hear precisely when Rampal caught up to him. His tone color becomes french-informed and his vibrato improves greatly.
