Can’t believe Phil Everyl wrote this song, but then again.. The Everly Brothers were such an incredible force in music. So many beautiful songs with two of the most incredible voices ever. What a song. One of the best.

I love Don and this song but too many vocal trills. Should have kept it more folky as in Songs our Daddy taught us.

Blind Faith and Santana covered Buddy Holly's well all right. James Taylor covered Buddy Holly's everyday. Linda Ronstadt covered at least three Buddy Holly songs. Dig deeper into this guy's catalog, all the greats did

My grandmother used to play her Hank Snow, Patsy Cline, Jim Reeves, Frankie Laine and Hank Williams records when I was just a squirt. She was a 1st generation American of Lithuanian descent, lived in Philadelphia, and back then this was called "hillbilly music", but she loved it. It has left a lasting impression on me, and I still love classic country (& western!) music. Wish we could get back to it, because I just don't care for the stuff that passes for country music these days.

Rene Shuman is a powerful soloist. But Phil's soft, sweet harmony is so charming, so mesmerizingly melodious. Even singing more quietly than Rene, Phil's melody is unsurpassed. The same is true of the EB's singing together. Nothing is greater than the power of their harmonies. Amen.

Download music legally! Screw you! I've played in working bands since 1987. I never got rich off of performing! You make a living playing out live and performing nowadays.. Recorded songs are free for the taking. If you do not want your music recorded there after you've released it then do not release it..

@Erik Tielman - Thank you for this. I've read so many comments that Don sang melody because his voice had greater range and could slide from baritone to tenor. This demo proves that Phil may have had the greater range because he could not only sound exactly like Don in the lower octaves, but he could also reach the high tenor octaves that we typically associate with him. He could do both! I'm saving this one forever. Thank you again. Love your work, especially the only video I've found which BEGINS with The Everly Brothers singing, "Leave My Woman Alone," and the Ray Charles version FOLLOWS. Here's why that works for me. The brothers are still quite young and their "young love" is just so cute. But when "Big Black Brother Ray" slides in (born seven years before Don and nine years before Phil) with his deeper, heavier, manly "I-really-mean-it, brother" voice, we can actually believe that he's about to "do some work" on somebody. Good job, Erik!

I was always a Rocker, and love the blues. But Gram Parsons, and his greatest performances with Emmy Lou Harris were my first introducdtion to Country Music (execpt for the Stones several great country songs, mostly due to Keith's affection for country, and his freindship with Gram). I love country as long as it is done by rockers. That twangy Southern stuff and the country stars from the CMA still make me sick.

This is so fascinating. We are in the studio hearing Roy play the song for Don and Phil. They hear it for the first time and immediately understand what their unique harmony, musicality and instrumentality can bring to the final version. Then presto, voila! Genius is born!
