Acoustic or electric.... the guy is an absolute guitar genius.

He was the greatest. Such an amazing songwriter, guitarist, singer. Trifecta. Had a chance to see him live five times and met him twice.

They didn’t "marry and start a family," John already officially adopted Wesley. When they married, they already had that child. They began as a family of three. Could be wrong, but i think it was perhaps the brother of Chris Blackwell that said to John, "John, you're all grace and danger." Thus, the title of the album was born. He never ever accepted being described as a folk singer. Never. Never folk. He never sang folk songs, he sang the blues, soulfully, with a good dose of progressive rock. Always singing his own songs. One of a kind. Utterly authentic.

Listen to Nick Drake then listen to John Martyn. Then understand who influenced who. John wrote a song called Solid Air all about Living on Solid Air

Should have been a super star
@VanBaylenАй бұрын
Artists like this are not meant to be “super stars” nor do I think they’ll never be in any era. Music like this only affects a percentage of the world. Especially nowadays, where minds are far too dismissive and removed from what great music is.

Have been listening to this song and Solid Air for longer than I care to admit. Still an emotional roller coaster whenever I hear it.

I wonder if Justin Vernon (Bon Iver) was influenced by John Martyn. This reminds me so much of Bon Iver and it was 30 years before Bon Iver even hit. This is amazing.

When John Martyn passed away, it marked only the second time in my life that I cried at the loss of a songsmith. The first was Harry Nilsson. Glistening Glyndebourne (the album) is the prized item in my music collection.

A unique talent who created atmospheres which perfectly expressed certain emotions. The droning delay evokes something far away yet familiar. There is a rare vulnerability here. I saw him do this live once in Liverpool and at the end after the applause a guy stood up and shouted "John that was fu**ing brilliant" to which John bowed a low theatrical bow. The audience member's comment was more accurate and truthful than most reviews.

I had the privilege of seeing him a number of times. Like many people are commenting how much talent he had, he never got the accolades he richly deserved, but his music has been in my life for over 40 years through the good times and the bad. Miss you big man.

he had a serious problem with overheating and profuse sweating.. why the fuck didnt these venues supply some kind of cooling.. even if it was just a fan.. but to let the man sweat like that is annoying to watch.
