It seems so obvious after someone has made it... but everyone else is still laying down.

Thank you for your comment Alan, we see upright as a paradigm shift. One that is so simple however the impact for all involved will be hugely beneficial.

What is the sense of this? Why is it better than other radiotherapy machine?
@leocancercare
@leocancercare 11 ай бұрын
Hello, Thank you for commenting. Upright treatments were attempted when some of the very first patients received radiotherapy over 60 years ago, however, the diagnosis was later and therefore patients were more likely to be lying down. Awareness of cancer and earlier diagnosis, means many patients walk in and out of their treatment now. Research data has shown that in the upright position compared to lying down, certain organs move less. For example, when upright our lungs are more inflated and breathing is less laboured, meaning less motion. There are lots of other examples which can be read on our page called 'Why Upright' www.leocancercare.com/why-upright. In addition to delivering more accurate treatments, instead of rotating the radiation beam our solution keeps this fixed and instead rotates the patient. This results in smaller, less complex machinery that also requires less concrete shielding. But finally and most importantly to us, upright patients and clinicians can maintain eye contact, see around them and feel a little more control. We have carried out research comparing upright to current care and the initial feedback is that patients felt more comfortable, found it easier to get in and out and preferred this position. We have lots more to research to do but our intentions are to deliver radiation treatments in a more natural and comfortable position. Please do let us know if you have any further questions and we will of course come back to you. Thank you again for showing an interest in Leo Cancer Care and Upright Radiotherapy.

What a great video to start off Breast Cancer Awareness Month! This looks much easier and more comfortable for her than lying down, and it seems the docs would be able to see more tissue this way. Awesome technology!

Amazing new technology! To be upright and see everything around you instead of lying on a hard cold surface has got to be better. And, the patient was having an eye-to-eye conversation with the tech. That would make a world of difference to me. Keep it up, Leo Cancer Care!

I would be much more comfortable sitting up; you can see the people in the room with you! How does this change the actual treatment? Is this going to be available soon? Where?

Thanks for your comment. We 100% agree and this is why we believe it will be the more human way to deliver radiation treatments. The radiation itself is no different, instead of rotating the beam around a patient, we fix the beam and slowly rotate the patient instead. This simple change brings a range of benefits. We hope to offer treatments in 2024, we have currently 4 customers that are helping us to test and get the system ready. Thank you for your support!

Hello @Tohhmo1 thank you for your comment. Our products have not yet achieved regulatory approval and therefore cannot scan or treat patients yet. We are working hard to achieve this in 2023 with a view to making this treatment available in 2024 onwards. Thank you for your interest.

Hello Jane, Our technology is built in both the UK and the US. We have three systems installed in France and the United States. However, we cannot treat patients until we have achieved regulatory approval. We hope to make these treatments available in 2024. Please let us know if you have any questions.

Lung cancer is curable if found early enough. For patients who have small, early-stage lung cancer, the cure rate can be as high as 80% to 90%. Cure rates drop dramatically as the tumor becomes more advanced and involves lymph nodes or other parts of the body. Generally, bone cancer is much easier to cure in otherwise healthy people whose cancer hasn't spread. Overall, around 6 in every 10 people with bone cancer will live for at least 5 years from the time of their diagnosis, and many of these may be cured completely.
