I guarantee that Jackie in that soggy old Rolls he’s driving could lap the track faster than ANYONE commenting on this video could manage in a new Ferrari. And I’m talking about modern day octogenarian Jackie. Get a young Jackie and it isn’t even fair.

3:09 "theres a little river that runs across the road there so youve got to remember that". Can you imagine if they had to avoid the odd river every now n then in modern f1?? Rip Francois, such an amazing talent and from what ive seen a damn good guy.

I love watching the mid 60's F1 cars go airborne over that one "jump" hill on the Ring...I understand they did finally have to level it out a bit to keep the later faster F1 cars from killing themselves.

Flugplatz - Flight place/plaza.
@MrEDET2 жыл бұрын
@@VanWinger Actually Flugplatz is the righthand corner after the jump, named so because there used to be an airfield there. The straight with the jump is called Quiddelbacher Höhe. Sorry for nitpicking :-/

I had a hunch I was off -- but shotgunned. My apologies. And to reference a prior discussion; I once camped out in '86 at 'Turn 11' - Watkins Glen, but chicanery has now renamed my camp. What turn am I?

@@VanWinger Hehe no worries mate, it's an easily and commonly made mistake because Flugplatz sounds so logical for that jump :) About Wakins - I have no clue.. I googled but I have no idea. I know the 60's layout well because I played a lot of Grand Prix Legends and now Iracing which just released an awesome version of the latest layout - but I have no idea :)

In 1977 I worked with a guy who was on the organizing committee for the Long Beach Grand Prix. It was the first F-1 at Long Beach, and not a lot of American's, at the time, even knew much about F-1 racing. Anyway, the guy I worked with invited me to go with him to the celebrity/driver dinner they held the evening before the race. When we got to the place where the dinner banquet was to be held, a guy at the door asked us who we wanted to sit with. My co-worker looked at me and said, "you choose". Just as an off the cuff remark, I kind of joked, "Jackie Stewart". The guy then just looked down and took our names and said we were at a certain table number. When we were seated, we actually ended up sitting there with Jackie Stewart, George Harrison and two writers from Road and Track magazine. Any way, because of Jackie Stewart at the table, we had the most fun, amazing, laugh your ass off time on the piss until we practically had to crawl out of the place. Even shy George Harrison was a big part of a very fun evening I will never forget.
