Few pointers for you guys. First sharpen the points on that spear I actually use a fine file then a stone to get mine as sharp as a needle. The bars look a little small so maybe have them built up a bit. Paint the spear black then when throwing try to aim right behind the head the barbs hold better in meat than the bone of the head never ever sharpen the barbs .

I don't do it for the money, i love trapping trying to outsmart them critters plus to save the turkey nest and baby rabbit, I'll be trapping till the Good Lord calls me home.

Put the spear way farther down in the water

I’m from St. Cloud Mn. I love spearing and my only tip for you would be to raise your decoy up a bit. It’s gets significantly easier to hit them as you get closer to the surface. Last winter I got a 40” pike about a foot and a half below the ice in 14ft of muddy green water. They will come up for it usually. You just have less reaction time because you cannot see the periphery.
