I dont know whats it called, I was told by steering repair mechanic it s hard to find replacement, can be repaired for about $ aud 900. Contex: Sydney, Australia.

You might need to change the "steering pump". I got mine replaced for the same problem and now its good. (In Nepal-pajero 97)

Does the back rest fold on to the seat while u pull the round knob ? If yes, do you hear a click sound while its about to fold on the seat while you are still pulling the knob? There are two hook locks under the seat and sometimes its jammed due to folded carpet or extra layer of carpet. You can check those before you open the back of the back of the seat. If the back folds but the complete seat does not fold upright then use a long flat screw driver to press two pins at the sides, each at one side, this will release the hook lock.

did not have to replace the ball joints

he just unscrewed the screw forcefully out and reset the screw, it was too stubborn. He said he broke his screwdriver while he did it.

@@basselbanna864 did you solve it ? The question has been a year old, i did not see it. The wire end that control the bending process might hv been broken. There is a pin that you can press at the side of the seat to unlock so it can be folded to the front.

Are you sure it's rivets at the back ? It's illogical that it has rivets. Mine has bolts in three legs and one knot in on leg.
