Her books are adult, and therefore anyone who reads her books should be able to tell that the relationships are undesirable for real life (and if they don’t, that’s not her problem) but she markets and sells them as romance, which is completely endorsing the things in her books as anything other than abusive, toxic disasters.

I tried Fathomfolk and also dnf'd it on the audio book; it was a not for me but seemed interesting. Partly just was not in the mood for it :). The Piers Anthony books are in great condition and it's like many of the D&D books by Elmore and Parkinson definitely miss that art. I traveled for work for about a decade so almost all of my book purchases became digital.

How appropriate are these books? Our daughter just turned 10 and just got into reading wich we are thrilled by, but we want to make sure what she reads is appropriate. We are very strict about the media she can watch/ read and dont want her watching or reading anything innapropriate. Anything with violence, sex, drugs, swearing or dark themes is not allowed and the good guys have to win in the end. These books sound like she would really enjoy them but we want to make sure they're appropriate before we let her team them.

(SPOILERS-Kinda) . . . . I really enjoyed reading this book! I've always found the iconic "Panther woman" trope/character from the film adaptations wonderfully intriguing. It's great to finally see this character finally get her perspective rather than just being a "sex kitten" that can't be tamed.

Spotify is terrible if you want to listen to big fantasy, 15 hours then having to pay for more is such a strange model. Hours makes sense for music not books. To read the later SJM which people are somehow discovering as they just left a cave apparently they would have to buy 3 extensions in hours which makes for a pricey audiobook, unless they are reading over 3 months

Did he just offer a Sarah J Maas book as an example of people organically "discovering" backlist books through Spotify? 🤣🤣🤣🤣 Did the audience laugh? ACOTAR is literally #1 on the NYT bestseller list right now.

great wrap up! I agree that the Underworld one was my least favorite of all the short stories - I just found it really unappealing. I still think that if Celaena is this master assassin that she keeps claiming she is, then she needs to be better at picking up on everyone who keeps lying to her and gaslighting her

Yessss, I'm so glad to see such a positive review for A Letter to the Luminous Deep from you because it's one of my most anticipated books of this year. I have had a gut feeling I'd love it, so I preordered the hardcover from the UK. But you never know, sometimes gut feelings are wrong, lol. I'm so excited to get to it now!

Happy birthday! One of my favorite things about being a millennial is that we normalize celebrating birthdays into adulthood and just enjoying a day about us. For you or anyone who's read them, have you read Olivia Dade's Spite House? That's got a lot of the hero taking care of the heroine. I'm wondering how that compares to Only for the Week as Spite House is my favorite of the year so far.

I know this is a year to late but I find it really interesting how different one can experience the same book. For me "One Last Stop" has become one of my favorite romance books of all time. I actually do love both main and side characters. I really felt like beside the romance there was big found family vibes that made me fall in love with this book more than I already was. I also loved the romance. Jane and August's interactions and their situation really worked for me. I also like the speculative side of it. And for me the PDA wasn't really that bad. The book went out of its way to establish that nobody would walk in on them and with their situation it totally made sense too. As for the "white savior" angle: I can see it in the set up but Jane as a character is much more active in this story imo. Just because she can't leave the subway doesn't diminish her influence. This is a one POV romance. If Jane was not stuck on the subway she wouldn't suddenly have a much bigger part in the plot. And all the articles and blog posts fleshed her character out too. As I said, I know this is one year late but I only recently read this book after being discouraged by this video. And while I don't want to say that your review is somehow wrong (how could it, it is a personal opinion), I wanted to share my own opinion for future watchers to see.
