Will the york to Blackpool service be electric once the transpennine project is complete?
@BoogiesTrainsКүн бұрын
I think it goes via Blackburn so I doubt it unless it is rerouted.

I went on the New Addington branch when it first ooened in 2000. The Croydon Loop to New Addington opened before the other lines by 2 or 3 weeks, folowed by the Beckenham Junction branch, and then finally Wumbledon to Elmers End. Different permutations of running between the branches have been tried since, but unlike the DLR, no extensions or additional lines have been constructed. (Branches to Sutton and Crystal Palace have both been mooted at various times). I was impressed by the way the old railway tunnel on the old Elmers End to Selsdon line has been re used.

Happy New Year Boogies Trains. I still think that electrification from Neville Hill to Church Fenton should continue so that TPE and Northern can run electric and bi-mode trains on AC 25kv OHL from Leeds to York.

Happy New Year Andrew.

The electrical gap is Neville Hill to Church Fenton, not Colton Junction. Leeds station to Neville Hill was not electrified until the Airedale and Wharfedale lines were done - ECML trains didn't need to go to Neville Hill.
@BoogiesTrains2 күн бұрын
Yes. This video went for production a while ago. Apparently Neville Hill was energised in March 1993. The extension from Colton Junction to Church Fenton must be recent. Presumably the first part of the project to close the gap. It isn't even showing as planned in my 2017 track atlas.
@librarian162 күн бұрын
@@BoogiesTrains The Church Fenton was very recent. It was energised sometime this year.

I remember the oil..‘spray’…on the flanks of the Brushes, they really looked as though they had been doing something, a great bestial tumbling noise of the Sulzer engine from within the beast, the smell, or to me fragrance of paraffin and herring oil, heat, as they rolled into Kings X after their exertions!!

Great video, thanks. They really should have pressed ahead with electrification north of Bedford. Seems crazy in 2024 that so many of our major cities (Sheffield, Derby, Nottingham, Leicester etc.) have no electrified services. The North is badly in need of rail investment. It also seems odd that so many trains are formed of 2 or 3 cars. I’m sure the demand is there and more people would use the trains if they could guarantee getting seats.

Excellent video Mr Boogie. Yes the 1st generation DMU's were great,cleaner and more efficient. However like most things they aged and became unpredictable. The cold weather was there enemy and outstationed units would cause issues with the service as some engines would fail to start due to flat batteries. However a lot of the drivers were very resourceful and would have little tricks that helped the starting process. Great video. Hope you had a good Christmas and have a happy, healthy and prosperous New Year. 🤓

Do you think that Northern could order more new trains to replace the older trains that are getting quite old. Including ordering more Class 195 and Class 331 Civity.
@BoogiesTrains13 күн бұрын
A solution to capacity shortage that could be quickly implemented would be to add extra carriages to the 2 and 3 car CAF units. The same argument would apply to the WM and TfW CAF units. That would potentially allow services to be strengthened. It may also make some of the oldest units surplus to requirements. All in all it must be quicker than ordering complete new trains and should be cost effective as the type is still in production.

Leeds station is a good place to see lots of trains including freight trains. Still Network Rail should continue on with the electrification from Leeds to York via Church Fenton and from leeds to Stalybridge.

The far end of the new development (in the V between the Southern and Southeastern tracks) has a podium garden up some steps next to the 1882 club, looking towards Victoria. Should work much better for that Battersea shot hopefully?
@BoogiesTrains22 күн бұрын
Thank you for this info. Is that location readily accessible to the public? I have my eye on the new development next to the BTP depot near Victoria. There looks to be a communal garden of some kind taking shape but not sure about access.

Indeed. I visited several times in the early to mid 70s but not since. The demise of the merry go round coal trains has made it very much a passenger only location.
