Fascinating contrast to most other French organists, who unsurprisingly choose some of France's magnificent Cavaillé-Coll instruments. Though it had a Cavaillé-Coll rebuild, only 6 stops survive, this organ being essentially as designed by Maurice Duruflé and what a creation! Much as I love the power of those C-C organs and wonderfully mysterious reeds in these pieces, this recording has extra clarity, both in quiet passages, as well as full organ, with many very beautiful individual stops, bringing out new sonorities, while still sounding very French.

Alain’s sister played this better than anyone else. She never rushed thru it but made sense of it.

Nicolas Kynaston was the supreme master of this piece- his exceptional performance still haunts me to this day.

Typical french nonsense, odd and cacophonous music for "church" services.

Absolutely outstanding. Met Jehan Alain's work more than 20 years ago, but now I can really appreciate it. Which one is the piece occurring at about 1:03:00 ? (No timings in the description… mmh)

L'orgue Cavaillé Coll / Beuchet Debierre / Dargassies sonne magnifiquement sous les doigts de JB Robin. Poésie, technique, tout est là pour enchanter l'auditeur.
