I can't believe I missed this for some forty years, as an avid follower of Mr Charles Mingus, well ahead of the very modern usage of the world follower. Sorry for little convoluting but I am s little tipsy and from southern Mediterranean very windy island. Yet this song is resuscitating my drunk ass 🥰

Certain cuts when they air cause me to go "ooh, ooh, hurry turn it up!!!" I just heard this after a long while air on "Real Jazz Sirius XM". There is such an enormous library of Jazz, but some cuts should air daily w/o exception because of their beauty. This is 1. Mingus at a zenith.

Yes, he was at the top of his game. This LP put him back in the driver seat, what with the exceptional musicians, i.e. Don Pullen electrifying style on piano, Hampton on trumpet and Adams on tenor, and his longtime anchor Dannie Richmond from the workshops of old, he's got one hell of a snap. Wasn't too much longer after this album, he left us. From what I understand, he had been squatting in a house and the folks put him out along with all of his sheet music blowing in the wind, it was too much. RIP.

I agree! It's where jazz should've continued to evolve to, at this point in it's evolution, after it began to wane in the late 1960s. But I'm sorry to say jazz, in it's trajectory of evolution, from the time of the mid-1940s(which is when Modern Jazz was born)until the late 1960s, did not continue to evolve, and so we the world have been left with a dearth and a void that has never been rightly filled, save for a few exceptions here and there... 11-23-23.
