So... florals, essences, mantras, astrology -- an early inception of New Age?
@adrianokury

In the pseudo-botanical section, the eagle and the lion must represent visual summaries of recipes. (1) The lion could symbolize sulfur or a solvent, and (2) the eagle’s wings suggest a volatile component in a concoction or perhaps a substance that undergoes sublimation or transformation. To me, the plants seem to be composites or stylized depictions rather than outright inventions.

Thanks for a remarkably analytical and credible interpretation. Given that it is not even possible to know for sure, I am going to accept this explanation as the closest to fact as shall be achieved.

What an incredible scholar. His greatest asset may be his incredibly rich and measured voice. His analysis of the manuscript reveals a magnificent depth of knowledge beyond far beyond science and medicine. Had he not mentioned his medical degree, I would have assumed that he was a scholar of the classics and medieval letters. I would be intimidated to attempt a conversation with him.

Such a very interesting interpretation. Thank you so much. Your talk on the VM is the first I have heard that actually opens ones' imagination to the possibilities. Such a fascinating subject. I do hope The VM can be deciphered some day. But then too we humans do not have to Know everything. This sort of mystery is wonderful. Again, thank you Doctor

YOU sit and criticize and you are just as blind as all the others highly educated DUMMIES !!! the Voynich is the biggest HOAX of the world, simple obvious truth is, the writer of the book made it so that no one could read the lettering or understand it, they made a mistake when they use English numerals to mark the pages ! 34!!🤔😉🤥

You are right tolook at the manuscript as a whole, not get tied up in it's minutiae. It is most likely, not a hoax, but made up none the less, with the purpose of selling it to someone like Rudolph II of Bohemia, who had an obsession for all things scientific, astrology, and alchemy, and collectors like that, would, as now, pay a lot for it. It was manufactured to be enigmatic, mysterious, and alluring, and so it has prooved to be. My guess it was based on some ancient text, or texts, and made to look like it could be " decoded" - one day someone will stumble on one or other of the originals and then we will know. If you think this explanation is fanciful just compare " The Hitler Diaries" - also made up to sell for money !

32:58 That's the letters "sa". The writer put a "tail" on the letter a all through the text. I see the word "gostuosa" on the page at 32:45. If that's the word it means "greedy" in Portuguese.

Ok, at 18:37, that's a sweet potato or yam plant. I think this book was from South America. The sunflowers and the yam. And on the opposite page, it looks vaguely like a tropical vanilla bean plant, which has an orchid-like flower. Again, South America. The next pages - there are the words "cuosa." "cuosam", "sam" in the text above the plants. That probably means something. Cuosan means "rub loose" in Chinese. "buos," "raddusa"(clearing, in Italian), "atta, erosa" (eroded skin, in Italian, maybe of the plant?) "basada"(the base) at the roots. Those are all real words. I think people have approached this in the wrong way. It might even be more than one language. It's written by how something sounded to a writer, and drawn how something was described. I read old documents almost every day, and I get used to seeing distorted letters, letters written on their sides or backward, all kinds of things. I haven't read something this old, but there are words that look like Spanish or Italian words, the most obvious being basada at the roots of some plants. It's spelled two different ways here but it's the base of the plant - the root. Then one that's (best guess) a Chinese word on how to prepare the plant by rubbing the skin loose.

Seriously did you pay any attention? The book has been dated from before European exploration reached the Americas, so, No, it isn’t depicting anything from South America

I think the plants were drawn by someone who was told what they looked like, but who had never seen them. They did pretty well, considering they were going by description only. The way the roots were drawn, segmented on some, could be because they didn't know really what the plant looked like and had to make an effort based on what they were told. Some plants have stems or roots in segments. I think the "sunflowers" are exactly that. The flowers at the top have the seeds (although it kind of looks like corn inside a flower). The other flowers have the general look of a sunflower that has not yet bloomed, so they don't show seeds in those. Languages do exist that we don't have any examples of now. We know that's true. So if a person was writing a description of how to do something, if they didn't have the words they might use different languages together. This has to be a "note to self" kind of book about something the writer was told, and I think the same person wrote it all, but over a period of years, coming back to it at different times. Handwriting changes over time. I think it could be solved, but there wouldn't be anything fascinating in the book anyway. It's someone's notes about possible medical techniques and cures, and that person was getting the information second-hand by word of mouth. The most fascinating thing to me about it is that the plants seem to be from South America, and the words are in Spanish, Italian, some seem to be Chinese. It's a collection, and someone must have gone to or come from South America to Europe for that book to exist.

16:18 looks like a passion flower (passiflora incarnata) Passion flowers are used in herbal medicine to treat neurological problems. I think that this manuscript is a book on medicinal plants and how to graft them. You need four nodes when you propagate. Of course I don’t have any PhD‘s or MDs behind my name, but I’ve spent a lot of time with my hands in the dirt.

*"written in the spirit of Hildegard von Bingen"* You said it wasn't a cipher text quite a few times, how is it then--"in the spirit of"--a cipher text circa 12th cent. ?? 47:00 I am very much in the camp of dissenters on his theory, this is just plain terrible... I mean, just my own glancing over 15th cent. documents/manuscripts I can already find modest comparisons... and they are all different than these... not sure where he got his work from!?!? 'r' for example is a pre-Arabican numeral '4' in Italy... but, lol... I guess it's 'r' cause it 'looks' like one... 54:00 all of these paintings are quite interesting, but where are they from exactly?? They appear woven not drawn! Also the stars are a DEAD match, but how significant is this in actuality?? Many places have their own styles, this doesn't mean they are necessarily connected by hand--only in style, very much in how The Beatles influenced modern rock & roll... but didn't make any of it@

To me, it is so obvious that this is mystical! Alchemy is mystical: inner transformation. Also, no corrections and different spellings suggest that these lyrics (chanting) have been repeated for many years (visit any church, songs are memorized from usage) and different spellings because different languages within this group: those who spoke Latin, and those who spoke German, and those who spoke Italian. Woman represents goddess, earth, health, reproduction and vitality of life!
