As a guitarist the extent of my mandolin theory is "oh look, it's the same as the bottom 4 strings of a guitar, but upside-down! ". I have found it to be quite a useful observation.

Sincere, but context would be far more interesting and illustrative with backing, and with all due respect, a smile. Jazz shouldn't be serious!!!!

Thanks for the kind comments. While there is only 1 major scale (1 2 3 4 5 6 7 1), there are several minor scales. Look at videos 15, 16, 17, 18 and 19. You may also want to check out my 2 Improv series as they go into these as well.

Hey Pete! Thanks for this series, it's been very easy to follow so far. What's the scale pattern for the minor scale? Is it 1 2 3b 4 5 6?

I've just got to say this business about calling the passage between flat three and two an added "half step" is really irritating: what he's doing is adding an escape tone when going up to fa and then down to re. Thanks.
