I like how you handled the destruction of the Enterprise with just a hint instead of putting in right out there. That was supposed to be the big surprise of the movie, and I remember reading how Harve Bennett said he nearly had a heart attack when he saw they put it in the TV spot.

I’d like to see what warp drive, if depicted as described in the books, would look like, with space being the thing that was moving.

Good trailer. You did justice to the film there, like 2, along with the film scores they are masterpieces of 80s sci fi cinema.

This is a very rare movie that, in an age of cheap, seamless special effects this artifact of practical effects from the early 80s makes them all look like amateur hour. The ships have weight, every weapon impact perfectly times to add maximum dramatic weight, without a single extraneous shot. The entire movie is a space battle practically, but it’s emotional weight still hits like a prizefighter. Star Trek fan or not, no matter how flashy the effects may get, this movie is a masterclass in how you use the special effects budget to drive your plot home like a sledgehammer. Every effects shot *matters* And this trailer really drives that weight home. Well done!

Such a shame that paramount robbed shatner of the funding he needed for the ending for this film., it could have been great.

It's too mad this film has plot holes give enough to fly the Excelsior through.

I think Leonard Nimoy might have preferred this to the real trailer. He was quite upset that the marketing department put the destruction of the Enterprise in the trailer.

Watching this trailer makes me want to cry tears of joy that I was fortunate enough to see the movie on the first day of its release. Well done, William Renken. And let us never forget the immortal words of James Kirk: "Here it comes."

I very much enjoyed the movie when it came out, and when I got it in a 3-pack on VHS. And even liked the TV version with alternate takes ("Are you wearing your hair differently?" "It's still regulation, Admiral") and deleted scenes, with them cutting the creature going into their ear canal. But looking back on it, it was a lesson in stupid errors. The Federation gives approval for scientific research to create life. The Reliant goes to the wrong planet. "Ceti-Alpha VI exploded six months after we were left here." Kirk gets a message from Dr. Marcus that's "jammed at the source." Kirk is put in charge of a cadet-filled starship. He doesn't put up shields when Reliant approaches. Then Spock notices that Khan exhibits "two-dimensional thinking." So Kirk does the same thing! Instead of descending or ascending and changing their pitch to fire up or down as the Reliant passes, the Enterprise rises behind the other (which looks impressive). But Khan could easily have been watching multiple viewscreens and fired aft torpedoes, destroying the Enterprise. I wish someone would put together that video: "There she is!" "Aft torpedoes, fire!" And the saucer section explodes from Star Trek III.

Coming off the loathed Star Trek V, Undiscovered Country is much beloved. It certainly has many merits, but Meyers' screenplay is sodden with obnoxious and nonsensical literary references. Fun story, but by god does NM want us to be impressed with his education. It used to be my favourite Star Trek movie, but it has fallen far as I've aged. And I find it hard to believe that Kirk's grief would cause him to despise the Klingons enough to _encourage_ genocide by inaction.
