Yup - It is a beautiful road above, and worth the hike. That said, we made it up top without too much fuss (MDX), and an Outback was there too (Aug-2024). Wonder if Municipality will repair it... that last spot is trickier than it looks - likely made worse by unsuccessful attempts to spin wheels through it.

Glad you enjoyed the trip! Indeed, the video doesn't quite convey the depth of the ditch. Plus, it's always a good idea to err on the side of caution, as it would really be unfortunate to damage your vehicle and (potentially) get stranded.

Great video thanks for doing this. Is there still a yola forest service rd. I don't know how far.past it is from the Eaton lake turn
@ihikebc22955 ай бұрын
Hi! Don't know about Yola. The only one from a while back which was a prominent FSR that we remember was Maselpanik at 35.7 km from Flood-Hope Road (about 19 km from Eaton Lake / Rec Site turnoff). It's likely still there. As for Yola or any other, if it were there, it would still be there, unless it got overgrown, which takes many years. The only thing that might change is motorized access, if they dug a big ditch or put a gate.

You are very welcome. You may still get to within about 2.5 km of the main observation point in any vehicle, and then hike up - it's not a very steep road to hike on, with almost no traffic and a fine forest all around. @@ihikebc2295 woah. I wasn't planning on needing a kayak! I am trying to get prepared, have BRMB on my phone, tire deflator / inflator, puncture kit, large battery bank, sleeping supplies etc.. I'm wondering though, in your adventures around BC have you found more drastic measures necessary, such as a full size spare, skid plates, traction boards transmission cooler, lift kit etc?
@ihikebc22957 ай бұрын
None of what you see in our videos or website requires skid plates, though it wouldn't hurt. Ditto for extra vehicle clearance - the more of it that you have, the farther you will go in many places. A full size spare would be very helpful (and a spare of any kind is a must), as well as bear spray, satellite phone (or InReach satellite texting device), traction mats, and a water treatment device (Grayl geopress is very cool). But, first and foremost, take common sense. It's as beautiful as it is dangerous out there. Watch for road hazards, oncoming traffic, wildlife. Stay away from dropoffs when checking out natural sights, and beware of extremely slippery surfaces of river banks and near waterfalls - things can go South in an instant.

Hi, I did this Lower Reiseter Lake hike 30 years ago!! (July 1992) . The green canoe - a green canoe anyway - was there thirty years ago. I took it for a spin around the lake. Your picture of the campground with picnic table is nearly identical to the picture I took at that same location, from the same vantage point. Believe it or not, the two trees on the left of the picture look to be the same.... (if I had a way to post my picture....)

Back in the mid 70s my dad would take me up to Jones lake to fish . There used to be a fishing lodge up there ,5 little cabins you could rent for 10 bucks a night ,boat rental and a general store . Fishing was fantastic nice rainbow and kokanee . The road was very nasty back then ,coming down you were mostly in 4l low walking down. Braking would usually result in smoke lol. I haven't been up there this year but the place has sure changed since the good old days

@ihikebc229511 ай бұрын
Greetings! Not sure how low your GTI is, but regular clearance (think a typical sedan or coupe) should be ok (unless a deep cross ditch develops on the road, which happens), though good tires are a must. I'd say minimum 6 plies and with plenty of tread left. Of course, have a spare and a compressor. Getting a tow truck up there would cost dearly :)

Hey! Thanks for the video! I am wondering if you think a 2019 Subaru Forester with stock tires would be able to make the drive, at least until the washout at 11.5km? Would really appreciate your thoughts. Thanks!
@ihikebc2295 Жыл бұрын
Hi! You are welcome. We have not gone to the washout since 2020, so don't know the current conditions past the split at the 7.5 km, where Jones Lake West FSR begins. That said, even 2WD vehicle with regular clearance should make it to the split (and further to the BC Hydro Campground 1.2 km down Jones Lake West FSR), as there no major surface issues, other than the usual FSR roughness. The only caveat - have good tires, as the road is full of numerous small sharp stones.
@awan3 Жыл бұрын
Thanks! One more follow up question... What does "good" tires mean? Could all seasons (M+S) be considered good? And would there be a minimum tread necessary (based on your personal experience)? Thanks again!
@ihikebc2295 Жыл бұрын
M+S is not necessary, but a 10-ply off-road-oriented tire, as opposed to a 6-ply run-of-the-mill tire, would certainly be better. That said, it's not like the road is full of nails, just small sharp stones. So, you would probably be ok with regular street tires with a good tread (i.e. not bald or getting there), but do carry a spare.
@awan3 Жыл бұрын
Okay thanks so much I really appreciate it! Super helpful 🙏😊
