Hello, it depends on the degree of your daughter's flat feet. As a more affordable alternative you can try the Keen Newport as long as your daughter has mild to moderate pronation, if she has a strong degree of pronation I do suggest trying an orthopedic sandal such as Memo.

I hadn't thought of sandals for my daughters AFO. She's a toe walker... we're working up to wearing her braces 20 hrs a day. So I'm trying to find something to put over the braces to allow her to walk around in her braces without wearing her Billy brand tennis shoes. It's so hard as they are very wide at the ankle where her hinges/screws are. And she's 7, almost 8, yrs old and is so shy and worried kids will tease her. So I've made sure she has plenty of "bell bottom" type pants to cover them until she hopefully feels more comfortable at school in them.

Thank you for sharing. Hinged AFOs are some of the hardest to find shoes that fit as they take extra space compared to regular AFOs. I love the idea of using "bell bottom" type pants to cover the AFOs. I get contacted by so many families and their children also feel shy about wearing these orthotic devices, so I will share this trick with them.

I haven't come across this specific situation. Have you inspected the shoe of the foot that gets on the toes? I would first check if there is some sort of sharp object or defect around the heel of the shoe that might be forcing your child to get on the toes. I also suggest to check if the shoe on that specific foot is too big, as that might also be the cause of your child getting on his toes. I appreciate your response. This is about my niece's 2 yr old. I am just a concerned uncle looking for answers. It's like the child had a severe charley horse/cramp in her crib one night and it was never relieved. It's just the one foot, but she walks up on her toes with both for balance. Hi your videos are really interesting! My 18 month old has flat feet and his pronation is exactly like the video! Sometimes he drags it a little bit. We were told this is normal at his age and should do a wait and see until he’s 2 years old. Would you help me somehow? What should I do? Hello, I am glad that you find my videos informative. I agree that it's totally normal for an 18 month old to have flat feet, as children can develop arches until they reach the age of five. However, not all flat feet are the same. The degree of your son's flat feet and pronation will help determine whether he can benefit from wearing supportive shoes, orthotics, or both. Is there a history of flat feet in the family? Is your son having stability issues? I suggest wearing socks with shoes as socks act as a barrier between the feet and the shoes and help prevent foot issues such as blisters. Crocs are fine for short periods of time, like walking to the swimming pool and coming back. For longer walks you will need a sandal with more substantial and supportive outsoles, such as Keens or Tevas. For anyone wondering, these are Keens sandals. Keens sells 3 different kids models and these look like the Keens Seacamp model or they could possibly be the Newport model (definitely aren’t Moxies). The Newport version (original rugged version) is very high quality, but it’s heavier and wider. The Moxie offers the least amount of support and is the most narrow out of the 3 models. I like the Seacamp best because it’s lighter than the Newport but still provides good support. The Seacamp width can work for most foot widths from narrow to wide unless the child has extra wide feet (Newport would be best in that case). If your child likes the feel of the Seacamps and has very wide feet, you could try going up a size.
