Hahaha @ lighting comment. Some people complain about everything. Great vid, this bag (after soooo many) are as close to perfect as I can find for so many reasons, probably biggest is access to small pocket on side without having to remove from under seat in front of you on an airplane. Best mod for me (on your list) would be removing the Velcro never thought about that, I think cutting and adding the buckle may end up being over my head as I’m not sure about the sewing. I will say that I am switching the buckles on the load balancer to fidlocks (I just discovered fidlocks on my Mystery Ranch/Carryology collab and am Fidlocking the p!ss outta everything I have). Great vid man, watching it I am saying out loud “THIS is what KZbin” is all about!!!

I saw your video a while ago when I bought my bag, but I finally altered mine. But totally different to yours. Firstly I took off one of the sets of velcro... totally agree there was too much. It would be nice is they did something with magnets instead of velcro... but hey... one set is fine with me. The top handles... based on your video I thought I would want to remove the handles... but I ended up liking them.... I don't know if you had the original Prvke or the V2... but the magnets in the V2 were a bit better... and I actually liked being able to pick up the bag while unzipped and move it somewhere else... so I kept them. What I do do... is use the big strap to clamp the handles down when on a hike. The main change I made that was different to yours was because I don't really use the side access (I use a clip for easy access to the camera except when travelling/flying and I can never cleanly pull out or put in the camera easily). I basically altered the side access and sewed in some molle attachment points on the flap. What that means is that I have an additional side pocket that I can attach anything to. Personally I have put a water bottle holder... but I will play around and see what I like in what situations. What I especially like is I can remove whatever I use there, attach it to my belt to be a "fanny pack" on days I dont want to carry a day bag. Even with my changes... I wish there were some changes to the bag. It makes no sense that the straps (the ones you get with the photography bundle) and the side compression straps have different clips. The handles... I still think they need a better way of securing them so they flop around less. For a bag though... it's pretty good as is... and even better with mods.

A molle panel would be a nice mod! Yeah mine is a V1 so the magnets were really weak. I think if they added a standard length grab handle and gave the tote straps a place to live when you don't need them, that would be a great way to make them even more useful.

I was hoping for part 3, maybe the new version came out and you went on to that bag. I am thinking of asking my niece to put the find lock things on the side, and sewing the chest strap permanently to one side. To me it does not matter which way it rolls. I ordered the bag last week. I wish they would watch your video for great ideas of improvements. Have you tried writing to them? I hope you are okay, and nice looking puppy.

Thanks for the comment. Did you order the version 2? Since this video I added an admin panel- which is to say I sewed a Shimoda Panel Wrap (the 2 panel version) onto the laptop sleeve. It works great and looks good, but the new PRVKE v2 has added pockets to this area so it's not really necessary. I have to say I was disappointed not to see greater changes in the V2 design. Last year I ended up getting the Shimoda Explore v2 35L, and use that as my daily driver now. I still use the Wandrd occasionally but it was a little too cramped for some things. Good luck with your mod!

Thanks for sharing. How is the vegan MM holding up? I just purchased one. Might do this conversion. Question: Can I just use the really right stuff L85 lens foot at the base of my 5D4 instead of the L plate? Thank you!
@jeffsellenrick66353 жыл бұрын
Hi Michael, thanks for the comment. I still use the Vegan MM but at this point I would swap back to leather because the vinyl material gets a little "sticky" when the slider goes up and down and sometimes I have to help it along with my other hand. Other than that it is a brilliant strap, and the QD mod is definitely where it's at.
@jeffsellenrick66353 жыл бұрын
Also, I have the L85. I haven't tried it on any camera body, but I would say that it would probably work as long as you are careful to keep it tight. The lip at the end of the plate is your only anti-rotation feature, but it is undermined by the fact that the screw can travel in its slot. So basically as torque is applied to the plate via the QD socket, the plate will slowly work its way down its track and then you lip is no longer touching the camera, meaning it can twist.

Very nice mods! I really like the changed direction of the rolltop, looks much better. However, now with the V2, your setup would cover the quick access pocket on the back right? A bummer if so, since I think your design ideas, with removing the velcro is also much better.
@jeffsellenrick66353 жыл бұрын
Well both the V1 and V2 have the quick access pocket in the same spot. The pocket on the v2 has been redesigned to be a little more usable. But yes, where I attached the top strap goes over the quick access pocket. You have to unbuckle it to access it.

Hey Jeff this is the first wandrd mod video I've come across and it's quite amazing! I was wondering if there was anyway to convert the backpack into a trolley. I've been looking at wheels that could blend discreetly (and firmly) with the bag but I've come across none.
@jeffsellenrick66353 жыл бұрын
Hey thanks! I have no idea- I've never heard of adding wheels to a backpack like this. I think you would need a frame for that, but this bag doesn't have a frame. At any rate, you would have to lean down really far to pull the bag along behind you.
@Burritosarebetterthantacos3 жыл бұрын
I have Fuji and the 31 is barely big enough by the time I add lenses. For a one bag travel there's no damn way. I like the bag, I actually have two, but the strap on top I cut off almost immediately.

I got a Moneymaker Solo for Christmas, and as I was preparing to do this mod, I realized there's another simpler, cheaper, and non-destructive way to switch it to QD. Just take that assembly off as you've done there, but rather than modify it, just set it aside in case you want to convert it back for some reason (or retain your return/warranty), and use one of those more rectangular QD (not the D-loop) directly on the main strap. No extraneous metal or plastic to make noise. To attach or detach it, I actually use the leather strap to release it, pushing on the backside onto the button (though detaching admittedly takes a bit of dexterity). I'm going to go ahead and mod the litttle slider strap as you've done, though (again, using the swivel directly on the leather rather than with the extra Magpul clip), mostly for aesthetic reasons - I just think the extra chrome will look a little nicer. I think I'll try that with the Heavy Duty Magpul swivel, which has dual-side buttons rather than the button, which may be easier, but still safe, to disconnect.
@jeffsellenrick66353 жыл бұрын
So if I understand your description, you're going to eliminate the slider and just attach a wide QD swivel directly to the strap? I tried the Magpul QDM swivel vs the Paraclip+D-ring combo. I love the QDM for it's quick buttons. (They are really sliders) I ended up going with the latter because the QDM attached directly to the leather did not have as much range of motion. Basically because the paraclip travels back and forth on the D-ring it provides different angles of hang, in addition to the swivel motion. It's not all that critical when it's hanging by your side but I found that when you pull your camera up to portrait orientation, the strap would sometimes bind because it hadn't swiveled properly, or because of the stiffness of the leather it was in a funny position. Also, the QDM was so easy it made me nervous. The recessed button on the D-ring isn't as easy but it provides some peace of mind.
@esldogrescues3 жыл бұрын
@@jeffsellenrick6635 Yes, right now I've got the wide QD directly on the strap. I do have the chicago screws arriving tomorrow, at which point I'll try attaching the wide QD swivel directly to the extra leather piece. Right now it's working quite well directly on the main strap, though the leather is still new and stiff, and as it wears a bit, perhaps I'll need that smoother chrome piece to maintain smooth action. What I really wish I could find is a QD clip with a big chrome ring like the one on the end of MM's sail clip. That would be safe, easy to operate, very smooth, and be consistent with the look of the rest of the strap. Oh well! The sail clips looks neat, but that's all it has going for it, imo! A big PITA if I'm switching between strap and tripod quickly.

Nice video. I was looking for someone showing the vegan MM in action and talking about the material so I am glad I ran across yours. I do have 2 questions for you as well. I am considering a MM and I'm trying to choose between the leather and vegan version. You mentioned that the burgundy one was bleeding onto your shirt. Is that one of the water buffalo ones? I was looking at the bridal leather (chestnut) vs the vegan as my choices. The second question is on how stiff the vegan MM feels. Will it (or has it) broken in or does it not really break in over time?
@jeffsellenrick66354 жыл бұрын
Nathan Smith thanks for commenting. I have not actually had the vegan MM out on a shoot due to the pandemic. But I would say it is roughly as flexible as the water buffalo burgundy I have. A stiff leather like the bridle would hold its shape better as you lift the camera. A concern I have (unverified and untested) is how the vegan would react to extreme heat. Would the slider stick or not slide as well? Would it become more floppy and not hold its position when you lift the camera? It is a minor thing but I think while the vegan is not a tacky material, the leather slides a bit better.
@NathanSmith14 жыл бұрын
@@jeffsellenrick6635 Thanks for the feedback. I kind of figured you have not had a lot of time to really put the vegan MM through it's paces yet since you only just put the video up. I'm still on the fence which to get, but this info does help me out. Thanks.

@@jeffsellenrick6635 Does the paraclip attach to the original HF D ring screw?
@jeffsellenrick66353 жыл бұрын
@@rodneyturnerphoto it would fit as the bail on the HF D ring is slimmer than the QD d ring. But you would not want to do that because there would be no part that swivels. Basically every movement would torque the HF ring and unscrew it. If you’re going to keep that D ring I would say the HF sail clip is more ideal
