in Sim City 2000 if you get into a debt spiral you can just type in IMACHEAT to get an extra $500,000. Maybe the government can try that?

What do you think, what the AI will do with the wages? Are they staying the same, are they going up, or down? I would appreciate your opinion as economists.
@michaelvendredi82742 ай бұрын
The typical economist answer would be: your wage will go down to the cost of AI if you do exactly the same as it does, and it will go up if you can produce more stuff or higher value thanks to using it. Example: if you are a translator, it probably goes down. If you are a social scientist or business student that suddenly can code thanks to ChatGPT, then it goes up.

As has happened in the past, technology eliminates many low-value jobs and replaces them with higher-value roles. These might be jobs in the traditional sense of working for a company, or they might be contractor or startup company opportunities. My bet is value will be found in two areas: STEM (for obvious reasons, though staying ahead of automation might be more challenging here) and the humanities (greater need and value placed on human interaction, creating projects, consulting and advice).

Thank you for this webinar from Germany. I tried Google Notebook LLM for learning and applying German criminal law. That's going quite well. Unfortunately, the podcast function only works in English so far, but it's still fun, even though Google LLM doesn't know German criminal law terminology.

The trilemma he mentioned is different from the one we typically refer to. It should be security, scalability and decentralization. Scalability should be included.

A couple of observations: - page 4 on the y axis. Should be primary expenditure minus receipts PLUS interest expense if we're talking about flow of payments to holders of government debt. Someone who holds government debt receives interest payment. They don't pay it out. Chris paused right before that statement, which gives me the impression that he sensed the error, but didn't want to bail out of the statement. Nonetheless, this is an interest manner to think of the debt burden; we're very used to the gross burden, but we should be studying the net burden. - it would be really interesting to update the graphs given the increase in interest rates since 2020. - the spinning bottle cap made me want to reach through my monitor and throw it in the garbage. - the question regarding multiple equilibria in the end didn't really make sense given the material Chris presented. Will definitely be checking Markus' other videos out. Shame I didn't discover these earlier.

It is not clearly argued why decentralizing the public administration should improve development. Information is better, since administration is closer to local problems. But incentives need to be present. They are mentioned in the video for the case of China, but may not be present in India/may be difficult to create in a democratic model. To the extent that corruption is present in the public administration, decentralizing could worsen rather than improve the speed of development

We fail to understand the implications of living in a world with 8 billion precious humans. In addition every year another 80 million, 2X population of Canada, join us. We continue to use governance/government models from our barbaric past. The rules of the 20th century, bloodiest in world history, continue to fail civilization. Example is industrial policies which ignore the on the ground facts. Most nations have little to no raw materials let alone an industrial base. In this time of resource depletion including the use of 100 billion barrels of oil equivalent fossil fuels energy annually. There is no Fossil Fuels Fairy refilling the holes. This foolish push to build huge industrial parks that duplicate existing plants as a way to punish other nations doubles down on greenhouse gases pollution for no significant returns other than national pride and defense industries. Currently we're adding 51 billion tons of greenhouse gases pollution annually. Trapping heat equivalent energy released by detonating 7 Hiroshima type nukes every single second for over thirty years. We're connected as never before. Science shows that we're not only related to each other, we're related to the entire biosphere. We need a new model that recognizes at first we are human!!

I belong to a family which is part of the bottom 40% of the wealth distribution in Pakistan. My GRE scores, grades, and intelligence were arguably comparable to the top 5%, if not higher in my society. However, I never had the same opportunities that significantly less talented people had relative to me. If higher education was not captured by the elite, I would have better opportunities.

I have a question. Why does the model only has one state variable eta? In my understanding, the state variable of the expert problem is n^e, and the state variable of the household problem is n^h. Why is eta sufficient to pin down both n^e and n^h?
@jbl_966 ай бұрын
If eta is the net worth share of experts, then 1-eta is the net worth share of households. You have both, from just one state variable.

Dear Professor, don’t you think that a long term GDP gap in USA (West) to potential trend is a potential signal to the increasing probability of global war with other parts of of the world (China) who may challenge the leadership of the west. Like it was after the Great Depression (west vs Germany/USSR)?
