Bretonnian infantry is definitely meant to be supported by a knight unit even if just for the stat increase. They got wiped almost every time!

What I've always liked about the Depth Guard is that if they get into melee, even if they lose they'll still take a pretty gnarly piece out of the other guys. They're just a damn solid unit, even if they don't necessarily excel.
