It's hard to believe but the Husky who is almost half the size of the German Shepherd has a greater bite force. Huskies have the highest bite force of any breed relative to their size; 320 PSI. A Shepherd's is 230 PSI, and NO, pit bulls don't have the highest bite force to their size. The reason a Husky's bite force is so high is because Huskies and Malamutes have retained more wolf characteristics than any other breed. Their wedge shaped heads are very similar to a wolf. The wide wedge shape = much longer and much denser muscles because they wrap up and around the side of the skull and connect at the sagital crest. Huskies are usually friendly towards strangers and to other dogs but if a dog becomes aggressive with them, the fierce wolf predatory instict in a Husky will come out with a veangence. I know, I owned three Huskies, two at a time.

Your husband is such a good guy to corral those two dogs and at least keep them safe. You are both so sweet to do that. What a good advertisement for getting your animals chipped. Once dogs get out the travel SO FAR and you wouldn't think it but they do. Even tho this was 7 years ago you still deserve a medal for this good deed!

My 2 cents from a cat person--you and your husband are a wonderful, caring couple working together and never second guessing each other, moving forward step by step toward a solution--great teamwork! St Bernards are not your typical stray mutt, they had to have owners, and for the owners to have two enormous, valuable puppies missing without tags on collars is crazy head-scratcher. They are only too lucky to have them safely returned. I hope they learned a lesson!!

It's wise that you separated them, my Saint would regularly have barking/growling matches with the neighbor's Husky pack. I'm glad yours got along but it's certainly not always the case.

Where I live, there is a website called “lostmydoggie” where you can list for free and post a pic and at your discretion, if someone contacts you, I suggest you require a photo they have be sent to you to confirm. I picked up a lab near a very busy street that looked lost. I posted and within several hours a freaked out owner had received my alert from a friend. He sent a pic and verified. Came to get him and I said I hope you will get him chipped, apparently a GPS tracker came off while on a hike…you never know. Please add ID of some form to your animal. I was not about to take the dog to a shelter, plus my rescued beagle was in heaven with her new playmate 😊 Happy ending.
