8:00 Stuff like this is why Trials and Tribulations is my least favorite game in the original trilogy. They butcher a lot of things ig to avoid spoilers. For example, in 3-2, the events of 2-2 are described as a "channeling incident" when that is not what 2-2 was. And it's not a minor throwaway line, it's brought up to establish Maya's hesitance towards spirit stuff. Similarly, Edgeworth is very out of character in 3-5. I don't believe for a second that Edgeworth wouldn't believe in spirit channeling when it has happened multiple times in front of him. Plus he calls Misty a "fraudulent medium" when the first game established that he did in fact believe in the channeling. And honestly believing in the channeling is almost essential to his motive for becoming a prosecutor, so them messing this up is not just a little inconsistency, it's something that breaks his character. Plus Manfred explained why the channeling got the wrong guy, so even if Edgeworth did believe the channeling was "fraudulent", he has no reason to believe so in 3-5. And the final thing I am gonna mention is minor compared to the rest but when Bikini brings up DL-6, Phoenix acts as if it's new information. I get they need to explain it in case the player didn't play the first game, but they could have written it in a way that made it clear that Phoenix is familiar with DL-6 (like how the 1-2 established that he knew who Edgeworth was, even if the player didn't). And I personally find it weird that I really don't see AA fans talk about these. If these same inconsistencies were in DD or SOJ, I feel like people would be more vocal. Plus I have heard a common criticism of 1-5 is that is makes Phoenix's attitude towards Edgeworth throughout JFA to be strange. However I will say, it is still possible to reinterpret Phoenix's attitude in a way that is still consistent with 1-5 (admittedly it would require some stretching, but I feel 1-5 makes Edgeworth's shift in 2-4 feel more natural, so I am more willing to do so). On the other hand, there's no way to reinterpret things like Edgeworth's sudden disbelief of spirit stuff in 3-5 to make it more consistent with 1-4. Plus T&T has no excuse for its inconsistencies, as there was no case added to confuse things like with 1-5.

I mean, she does END UP competent! It's just, as you say, that she got there through constantly screwing up. Or in other words, competency isn't a personality trait, or even a goal: it's a result.

I just finished the trilogy for the first time, and I agree it was disappointing to see Franziska's character seem frozen from her previous appearance. That impression sort of bleed over to the trial scene with her and Edgeworth, where I don't recall a moment where she got the upper hand in the trial, and I half walked away thinking they colluded to just keep the trial going while Phoenix was away.

Yeah, Manfred should not have had a Great Revival / Triumphant Return theme. When this theme plays for Edgeworth, he's being revived from the dead (metaphorically of course). Prosecutor Edgeworth has finally found himself after a soul searching journey. That's why it's a Great Revival. When this theme plays for Franziska, she's returning from being shot with key evidence that would literally turn the case around. Despite the efforts of Shelly De Killer, she did not budge from her duty. That's why it's a Triumphant Return. What is Manfred triumphantly returning from? What is his "Great Revival" moment? Nothing. The answer is nothing. Instead of a giving him a theme which fit the themes (heh) of his character and his situation at the moment (like with Miles and Franziska), they literally give him that theme because he's related to Franziska.

Edgeworth didn't fake his death. He just calmly leaves the country, and Phoenix just acts like he's dead because Edgeworth didn't tell him. Gumshoe knows, Franseka knows, Phoenix even knows. The joke is that everyone is upset that Edgeworth is gone away, but everytime the topic comes up, it's either shutdown before anyone can answer Maya's questions, or, something comes up that demands their attention.

8:39 The fact that Manfred doesn't have a theme even though he's the final villain of the first game is a crime. although the composer redeemed himself by giving that orgasmic organ theme to Gant

@rang2111Ай бұрын
While I agree with a few of your points, the premise of the video seems... a bit off the mark. The original great revival isn't franziska's theme, it's franziska and edgeworth's themes (albeit, franziska's is played to a different key than edgeworth's). The theme also plays before franziska's big moment, and it plays for edgeworth, not franziska. So it's only natural more people will associate it with edgeworth instead. I don't believe the reasoning for this is based in sexism, rather I always found it very profound that both members of the von Karma family should use that leitmotif

I remember finding it really weird that Manfred pretty much inherited Franziska’s theme in the Investigations games. I think Edgeworth and Franziska sharing similar themes is suitable enough because it can be taken as both of them breaking free from Manfred’s grasp in different ways, but it’s so weird to me that Manfred just sort of… gets it too? Either way, I’m glad to find that someone made a video on this, because I really do feel that it is the *only* musical mistake in the series, just like the thumbnail says
@DostoyevskyTolstoyАй бұрын
Bottom line, I agree. The track is _too _*_good_* for Manfred, but I can give them a pass for wanting his cameo in the spinoff to feel, as others have mentioned here by others in the comments, "grandiose." ...trouble is, the leitmotif is used in the Objection and Pursuit themes, too. It crops up _all over,_ and Manfred doesn't/shouldn't get tied into that... cheapens the impression, and since we're already listening to it a *_lot..._*

Unfortunately, I doubt Franziska’s intent with the courtroom bursting was to help Phoenix. The last declaration made in court was Shelly’s accusation to Adrian, meaning that Edgeworth was “losing”. After the verdict, Franziska is disappointed that Phoenix is so chipper about losing, which makes me think she came in hoping that the evidence would achieve the guilty verdict. So in a way, it felt like it was still early in an arc - she did something good by accident and isn’t sure how to feel about it.
@TheGerkumanАй бұрын
It's not stated, but given that Edgeworth spoke to Franziska about finding Gumshoe, it's possible he also told her about Maya.

Interesting video. Admittedly it's been years since I played the DS Ace Attorney games, so I can't recall my thoughts on the theme being used by Manfred at the time, but I can definitely see how it would devalue the theme.
@the-NightStar2 ай бұрын
I do not agree. I feel like her inheriting his theme is symbolic of her doing what she's been setting out to do for most of the time we've seen her: becoming the inheritor of the Von Karma legacy and forging her own path with that legacy to make it something she can be personally proud of rather than allow it to tarnish with his misdeeds. I find it a brilliant move to give her this music for her to take her family name and regain the honor she feels belongs with it, from her father who disgraced it. It symbolizes Manfred throwing away a family legacy only for Fransizka to claim it and to redeem it, herself. Thus I feel like you actually miss this point and I don't agree with any of what you're saying.
@catalyst5392 ай бұрын
It isn’t his theme, it never was. It’s been Franziska’s from the very beginning. Manfred’s theme is nonexistent, and Great Revival (especially Franziska’s version) doesn’t fit him. Court - Guardians of the Law fits him more. Otherwise I agree.

I've always been against Manfred having any sort of "Great Revival" leitmotif, as I feel that the theme is explicitly representative of Edgeworth/Franziska shrugging off the baggage of his teachings - coming into their own as prosecutors seeking truth rather than a perfect win record. Given Manfred is... Manfred, I don't feel it's appropriate (thematically) to give him a theme song that's emblematic of his ideology being shunned. But (out of universe) I can understand why they gave him Franziska's theme, for the same reason I think they used it for Edgeworth's first appearance in 2-4... Because it's a much more grandiose version of the theme, making for a more impressive entrance. I'd want to say more about Franziska herself, but I think I'll wait until I'm done replaying the AAI Collection - especially AAI2, given the deeply-pervasive theme of the relationship between fathers and their children, along with a young prosecutor who's been raised as a 'prodigy' being forced to come to terms with uncomfortable truths about their family - culminating in a decision as to whether they'll continue to walk down the Prosecutor's Path...
@beth56272 ай бұрын
I haven't played the Investigations games beyond a bit of the demo version of the first one, and I think there is an even more obvious contradiction in the leitmotif beyond subtext. It's in major. It sounds happy and triumphant, not two adjectives I'd describe Manfred with. He is the big bad of the first game, and it's not very subtle that he is the bad guy. Compare to Gant's bombastic yet slightly unsettling theme (Because you have to figure out that he is the killer)

@@Aciross Yeah, that's the title the official localisation uses for GK2, but I was referring to the metaphorical Prosecutor's Path that Edgeworth brings up at the end of JFA to Franziska. The path representing the journey he made to leave Manfred's shadow and understand his true purpose in the courtroom - one that Franziska (and eventually Sebast-I mean Eustace) must also face.
