I have the 70mm viper and just yard saled it a couple days ago. I wish it was this simple of a fix…. Good thing the wings and fuselage are pretty cheap lol everything else survived
@SteffenRC16 минут бұрын
Sorry for your loss Billy. You're right, some parts are cheap and its a lot easier to just spend a few $'s on a new fuse, than to try and save a mess. I did the same thing on my Viper.. Its an easy swapping of parts...Good luck on the rebuild.

Nice repair Will. Man I know not everyone flies Spektrum, but dang. In situations like this AS3X sure makes it easy. Go in the TX, make a quick change, and fly it. Very nice of you to get him gong again!
@SteffenRC23 сағат бұрын
Yep, for sure on the Spektrum AS3X benefits. But as you know, these other PNP Gyro systems work well, but they aren't very flexible. You CAN'T deviate from their settings. Most new pilots get in trouble when they "Don't know, what they don't know". (Hence my video on Gyros Kill: 2 posting tomorrow am). You know how I enjoy rebuilding these planes and it gives the channel some content.😎
@@livegood9876 you know how much I enjoy a repair job. I just hope I don’t see one of your planes anytime soon. 😂

Just a note to you buddy who owns that plane it only really needs or could benefit from a gyro at high wind speeds other than those conditions that plane is rock solid and stable in the air
@SteffenRCКүн бұрын
Yep. I told Matt to yank out that Gyro. It doesn’t need it and he doesn’t either
@5280RecreationКүн бұрын
Besides the obvious that anything can fail, gyros don’t kill planes, improper setup does. Gotta run the relearn gyro servo if you change something! That’s why I run Spektrum too BTW. I always run with a switch that can turn off gyro just in case I did something wrong, especially on maidens. Excellent repair video though!
@SteffenRCКүн бұрын
Yep. Like I said at the beginning. Pilot error. In this case he was using the Arrows Vector which came with the plane. There isn’t an option to “relearn the servos”. This incident got me to make a Gyro video which will post Saturday am

In your "glue" video a year ago you were pretty high on E6000 vs. Foam-tac (no, no, not that high). So curious why not E6000 this time? Just trying to learn. I guess if your not crashing your not learning. Great video.
@SteffenRC23 сағат бұрын
Hey John, Yes, E6000 is a great glue, however for the hinges I like Foamtac (more flexible) and the other repair was just a simple glue-up on an area with minimal stress and my Foamtac was in hand. Often, I'll use several different adhesives to repair a plane depending on the situation. Like hot glue for servo installation, since Hot Glue releases with a little Denatured Alcohol. (makes it easy to swap servos).

Wow - Some good info Will. I guess a person has to pay attention the the electronics configuration - or the gyro gremlin will get ya. If a servo goes bad, do you have to replace it with the same exact brand? (If the old and new servo both are 'normal' direction - will this replacement servo work Ok?)
@SteffenRC2 күн бұрын
Thanks for the comments. I've never had a situation like this where I assume the stock servo and the replacement (other manufacture) were reversed in direction. So, I was surprised a bit since I often swap a stock servo with a different vendor. I'm not aware is my buddy purchased "Reverse" servos. He's new to the hobby and may not of even known that was an option..
@livegood9876Күн бұрын
They are AFGRC servos on the rudder and elevator. $10 per servo. RC Review youtube channel claims AFGRC makes servos for many of the servo companies, AFGRC is the OEM company. Very high quality servos with accurate testing and specs on speed and torque. Meaning 9g will produce 9g unlike other brands out there that inflate their performance specifications and then do not deliver.

I had similar issues last week with a new design for a pusher plane I built. I'm starting to get to the point I don't want to run SAFE anymore on maiden flights. But it's on me in the end. Back to the drawing board!
@SteffenRC2 күн бұрын
Its hard for the newer pilots that have the skills to maiden and trim, but still need SAFE. If the gyro isn't configured properly, the newer pilot is in a world of hurt. I'm posting a detailed video on GYROs this Saturday. The story behind this video inspired it. Keep at it FlyTimeRC.. Good luck.

Hello Steffen. thks for your video ! For sharing. Kavan here in Europe is well known. It's a Czech brand. Personally, I've been flying their SWIFT-S1 for over a year; it's an acrobatic glider in fullspan 2m40, but it's also a very respectable glider. You also have the Twin Shark, a good foam model with flaps and ailerons. Kavan Pulse 2200 v2 is one of their best sellers (as a sport glider). But only Alpha model is for beginners. Their other models are much more powerful, and you'll need to master three-axis flying before venturing out. So, I wouldn't recommend them for beginners. Kavan Alpha 1m50 is similar to the Multiplex Easyglider 4 (which I own) and is perfectly suited to beginners, even after an initial introduction to dual control flying. Its small size makes it easy to transport. And it's lightweight. Nethertheless, beware of the wind (reserve it for winds < 15-20 km/h). Enjoy your flights with Kavan 🙂 JPhilippe - France
@SteffenRC3 күн бұрын
Thanks for the comments. Really appreciate it. This Kavan Alpha is a gentle flyer for sure. I was going to get the Pulse, but it was out of stock.. That said, I'm enjoying a plane that is ZERO stress while flying. Its a nice break between my fast EDF flights. Thanks again. Will
@JPh352 күн бұрын
@@SteffenRC Let me warn you Steffen. It will be very different and more ... sportive with a Pulse (due to its powerful motorization ; less docile than the Alpha) you can believe me 🙂 All models created by Kavan usually flight very well Enjoy European gliders ! JPhilippe - France (personnally I fly with FMS ASW-17, Kavan Swift S1, Multiplex EasyGlider4 and my last model is Multiplex Lentus; 4 excellent foam models that fly perfectly when properly adjusted and centered)
@SteffenRC2 күн бұрын
@ thanks for the info. I fly all types of planes, from heavy warbirds to fast EDFs. So, the speed of the Pulse won’t be an issue. In fact kinda looking forward to it.

This is absolutely not the best way to repair this type of broken hinge, installing Dubro pinned hinges is the best bet, very easy and won’t break again,
@SteffenRC4 күн бұрын
I don't think there is a "Best" way to do anything. I believe there are many ways to solve these modeling repairs. Gluing a foam hinge is a simple solution and it works well. A mechanical hinge is also a way to solve the problem and it also works well. There are pros and cons/ trade-offs to all of this. I appreciate your comments. Thanks, Will

Nice video. I would like to have known when you were in glider mode vs. powered mode. Your commentary did not point this out. I enjoy your videos.
@SteffenRC5 күн бұрын
Sorry I didn't point that out. Often I would just use power to gain altitude, then throttle to zero and glide. I'm not an experienced glider pilot, however this plane really surprised me at how long a small 1300 3S battery would last by powering up for a short burst, then gliding until I nearly land. Then do it again. Can't wait for summer and trying to find some thermals to soar.

How do know if the plane battery is low with no alarm???
@SteffenRC6 күн бұрын
The best way to determine that without telemetry or an alarm is with a timer. Fly your plane for 3min. Land, check the battery voltage. If its above your ideal volts (for me thats 3.8v), then fly a bit more. Record the time you flew and set your timer for that. Hope that makes sense.. Good luck, Will
