There's an order you need to use to get the correct tension. With the rear clips and bows in place, heat the top with a heat gun or in the sun then pull it forward to the leading edge and mark it with a china white pencil to give you an idea of where you want it to be, in the end the marked edge will more than likely go further around to get good tension. Hood attached to the rear and bows in place, pop the front clips, still within the hook just not locked. You could consider pushing the front bow froward to reduce tension if its cold, glue the front lip from centre outwards, you can tack glue this to check things before fully glueing. The outer corners should be glued after the front section, do this last. Dont pull to much out to the sides otherwise you'll have too much material there. Once glued but not set you can push the front bow back, and apply the front hooks partially to see how the tension is, you want it to be even. If it looks good then press and glue around to front edge, apply hooks to check final tension. Once you are happy you can trim excess vinyl and apply front metal place and seal. Getting the tension and distribution is the key, along with the correct glue and glue application. Like boat bamini covers, there's an order to applying the bows to get the correct tension.

That engine is so small it can to go in a garden tractor
@ChristopherLawfubb1234
@ChristopherLawfubb1234 3 ай бұрын
Your right! Even back in the 30’s someone put it in a motorcycle. My Dad once won a competition with a mate: they had to drive the car 15 feet, jump out unbolt the engine, then lift it out with their bare hands, run around the car while carrying the engine, then bolt it back in, start the car then drive 15 feet to the finish line…my Dad and his mate did it in 15 minutes… so it’s a small simple engine. You’d think I’d be able to start it more easily 🥹

Hi Peter, I’m really struggling with this to be truthful. I finally got a spark at the plug but very weak! If you’re interested I can give you chapter and verse on how I got there; but I suspect you could have done it in a couple of minutes compared to my several hours. I feel hopeless with this stuff sometimes… it’s sheer stubbornness that keeps me going. 😊

Congratulations on your purchase! I had no idea that the Austin Seven had that type of rear suspension, by the way. I had assumed it had conventional leaf springs. I don't think I dare hazard a guess as to what to call this setup!
@ChristopherLawfubb1234
@ChristopherLawfubb1234 3 ай бұрын
Wow! Good eyes. I had to lope down into the garage to have a look to see if the rear suspension was even there! I skipped right over that part! So they are there and its called a quarter elliptic spring set up (I think...someone will tell me if I'm wrong). There were friction disk dampers front and back (semi elliptic spring on the front mounted transversely). Well all that sounds good, but I may be talking complete gibberish! Anyway on my running Austin 7 (1937 two seater tourer) the suspension is terrible; always has been for the 47 years I've owned it!

Yeah I feel your pain. It's difficult to film every detail of what is going on. Most of the time I am making decisions on the spur of the moment and its difficult to film every change of tactic. If I can help with specific questions I will try and do that. I eventually sold the MGB and although the hood was not perfect; at least it passed muster enough for the new buyer not to have a problem with it. I felt the same as you do; but I just ordered a reasonably priced version of the new hood, and jumped in. Let me know if I can help.

Use contact cement, it will stay if you follow the directions. DON'T use self tapping screws through the aluminum strip, use rivets as is originally done, otherwise it is hard to get the sealing rubber in correctly.

Thank you so much. Yes I love the look and it kinda matches the newer looking Rangey's now. But bad news 12 months later is; its starting to peel off in places. We have had some really extreme weather here in NJ over the past 12 months; so that's my excuse. I think it might be easy enough to patch it. I also constructed my own roof rack rails; so if I can get a basket to mount on the rails; then maybe I'll just do that; it'll disguise it a lil bit! LOL !
