In the late 90's I worked as a secretary for a large Methodist church in Austin. One of the deacons for the church was a very tall, very distinguished older gentleman. Mr H was an incredibly kind & soft spoken man that just radianted power, authority & confidence. He was also a WW 2 army vet & one of the liberators. It sounds like this hero was a certified badass during his service, like so many men of that day were! He told me that him & his men were among the first to arrive at the gates of one of the concentration camps after it's discovery. After they had cut the lock on the gate & opened it the people started coming out of the barracks & walking towards them, he said. His higher ups in the Army had already told him to be prepared for these people. They hold him that many of the victims wouldn't have seen a person of color before. To be prepared they may wonder who he was & where he was from. So he was ready for the victims to ask. But he said the first man to reach him didn't ask anything like that. He simply asked Mr H "Are you an American?" When Mr H said yes the poor victim fell to Mr. H's feet & kissed them & said "We've been waiting for you"! I still bawl my eyes out whenever I remember that story. Mr H passed away about 15 or 16 years ago but his legacy lives on in a grandson that carries his full name & is an amazing guy just like Mr H. God bless them both & all who serve! ❤

Thank you so much for sharing this. This is one of the best video tours I have ever had the privilege of watching. Very informative and respectful. The sleeping conditions… The execution wall and the poles and the ovens.. just so sickening… I have a hard time wrapping my head around the fact that man could even THINK of doing such things to other human beings… They were all crazy and heartless.

All these poor people who faced each day probably assuming they would be killed any minute. Some survived this living hell, while most went to their death with any dignity they had left. They are all heroic in my book. I had the privilege of hearing Elie Wiesel speak many years ago. I was honored just to be in the same room with him. I wish I could have thanked him personally, but there were so many people there. Hopefully, by the size of the crowd, Mr. Wiesel knew his message was well received and the truth of what happened during the holocaust will continue to be shared and never forgotten. 🕊️

I understand their devotion but why not show respect to each other? To the men carrying the deity and to the sanctity of the overall seems more disrespectful to each other as fellow devotees than admiration for the statue. The lengths people will go to fulfill their desire of getting close to the statue that the dignity of your fellow devotees disappear kind of seems counterintuitive

I am a German that immigrated to Australia in the 70s. I was taught by my grandparents the atrocities that were committed against the Jewish community. These were life long friends of my grandparents. They risked their own lives everyday hiding as many Jewish people as they could. This is what saved my Grandparents in return after the liberation. Fast forward to Australia 2024. After witnessing protesters in Sydney shouting "G*s the J*ws" One the news it left me absolutely crushed to see that the human race has never and will never learn from us. My Grandmother childhood friends and families all gone in an instant because of 1 man's artistic use of expression and words. It all starts with WORDS. I have lost all hope for humanity 😢
