Good video. However, a few points.. Make a small hole in the back of your resin pattern and insert a suitable screw. Remove the screw and put it back in as a handle to pull it out of the sand. Talc the cross and sift the initial layer of sand using a fine spaghetti strainer. This will maximise detail. Once well covered PRESS this fine 'facing sand' firmly but carefully by had. Then ram your sand TIGHTLY and perhaps use something smaller ( higher striking pressure) to ram the sand . Start at the edges of the frame and work you way in the centre. Carefully put the screw into the wax form and use it to pull it from the sand. You dont need 'air vents' in an open cast. Hope these tips help.

Ive seen others heat the mold too, before pouring the metal. Maybe that helps. And the metal should be pretty fluid, so it is not sticking to the sides of the crucible. Havent tried yet. Just watching all you guys out here with videos. THANK YOU for sharing!!

that last one you did was perfectly ok, just needed the overspill cleaning up around the edges. You're never going to get a perfect cast, not even if you do it conventionally, there is always a big clean up getting rid of extra material around the edges. You don't need to bother with making air channels, you only need do that when it's a conventional cast to give the air a route to escape. In an open cast the air can't become trapped because it's not an enclosed space.

Would the burnishing remove fire stain dots? And do you start the burnishing straight after casting or after filing?
@ChrisBlackDesign27 күн бұрын
Not sure on fire stain dots . normaly fire covers the ring after its been soldered ...file first to remove casting lines if you have any then burnish . then you might have to smooth off with a file or use 180 grit sandpaper .... the silver we use is fire stain resistance so i have seen dots before ...this silver will get fire stain if you get it very hot when soldering .

Hey Chris, I would greatly appreciate a video about sand casting - specifically based on how to cast intricate designs with this method. I've heard through the grape vine that it can be done, however i have failed to find any instructions on how this is done. I want to be able to create finished designs for rings in wax and then sand cast as they are. I understand there are certain limitations of course, such as creating big crevices in the wax wouldn't allow sand to enter into that area so therefore would not come out in the end product. So a video on this would be greatly appreciated! Thank you :)
