Thanks Peter. Both my 50mm and 30mm J10 EDFs can fly really slow in high alpha attitude. I believe the front canards play a role in the flying characteristics, similar to the Eurofighter, Rafale, JAS 39 Gripen etc. You should get 1 too! 😁

It's a cool thing, it stays in the air well even when the wind is strong👍. Is it your national holiday? A few years ago I tied a German flag to the drone for the World Cup (while drunk), but of course it got rolled up and the drone crashed. The electronics and motors survived, but the rest didn't.🤪

So you did drunk flying? 🤣 Yes, we are celebrating our country's 59th independence day on the 9th August. The 50mm J10 EDF can fly surprisingly slow on a windy day at a high alpha attitude. Having the Byme gyro onboard does help a lot and it really flatters my skills. 😁

Hello Bob, unlike my other XK planes, the 6G/3D switch on the X450 is mapped to a memory switch. Press 3D once, press again to go back to 6G. That takes too long and I never know if the switch has been made. (Risk of crashing) On my other planes I hold down the 3D button for stunts, when I let go it automatically goes back to 6G mode. Do you know how this function can be mapped in OTx? I suspect via a logical switch. But I haven't found the solution yet.😅
@Retep12

That's done, I sometimes think too complicated😄
@RCBobOng

@@Retep12 Hi Peter, glad you found the solution. If your Jumper has a momentarily switch, you can map it with logical switch function and set a minimum duration for 'on' time. However if you intend to use a 2 way switch, the solution will be a little more complicated.
@Retep12
@Retep12 2 ай бұрын
Releasing the momentary switch SD must trigger another switching operation 988>2012. I have not found a solution yet. SRFF and PULS are not available in Otx as a function in logical switches or have been named differently.
@RCBobOng
@RCBobOng 2 ай бұрын
@@Retep12 Hi Peter, based on the info available at mult-protocol.org, 3D/6G (ch8) is defined as momentary switch. Can I assume that every time that button is pressed and released, the X8 radio will send a change in PWM i.e. 988>2012>988 to the plane or it is only 988>2012 ? If it is the latter, then another press on it will bring it back to 988 ? Let's assume it is the first case, so when the button is pressed for the first time, 988>2012>988 is sent to the plane to enable 3D mode. To get back into 6G, press the button again and another 988>2012>988 is sent. Below is what I come out with: L01 EDGE SD↓ [0.2:<<] - - - L02 EDGE SD↑ [0.0:<<] L03 L03 STKY L01 L02 - - - L04 OR L01 L02 - - - For L01 and L02, you may set the duration to 0.2 or longer if the plane doesn't respond properly. For L01, the [0.2:<<} gives a slight delay 0.2 seconds after the button is pressed. This is to remove accidental triggering of the switch. L03 is there to ensure L02 can only be triggered AFTER L01 has occurred. You may map L04 directly to ch8. SRFF is now named as STKY. It's difficult to discuss this on YT. If you need more help, you may email me gmail com 😊

I've only flown it with Infinity 3S 850mAh 85C and Gens Ace 3S 800mAh 45C. The latter has slightly lower internal resistance and just a little bit lighter. The Infinity can take much abuse without puffing up. Flight time is about 5 minutes max with throttle management. Your mileage may vary though. 😊

I know instructions say press left button 5 times to turn off gyro, i get 5 beeps but gyro stays on...have you been able to turn off gyro? Maybe plane needs to be flying..? Thanks

Hi, you can try 5 quick presses of the left button. There will be 2 beeps and the green led on the receiver board should turn red. It doesn't matter if the plane is flying or if the throttle is armed. I believe the stock ESC is rated for 20A and we have been flying it on 3S but everything does heat up a fair bit. Some of us has converted it to with external receiver and gyro for much better control. You may do a search over on RCGroups forum. Yeah unfortunately that happened to me as well but I had the servo go out the first time and I had nothing but upward motion it was to the sky straight up with the servo and it kept moving forward and it never stopped the servo. And like I said I went through three of these and I just keep purchasing it I got to come up with a different solution the torque from the Finn's they just spring off the little knobs because they're literally pressed in between through little beaded slots.

If the BEC is on the circuit board of the H650, an additional BEC for the power supply (5V) of the two parts must be installed when replacing the flight controller and receiver, right? Which cables then go from the original esc to the new flight controller, sbus and the negative cable or just sbus? Sorry, I'm not an electronics engineer.

Hi Bob, so it happened to you too. The propellers can't stand the load, with me already at 2s. Did your H650 survive?
@RCBobOng
@RCBobOng Жыл бұрын
Well, this was the only time my propeller failed completely. I suspect the root cause is due to the aileron servo coming loose and into the path of the blade tips. At that moment, I was wide open throttle (3S) and making a vertical climb, so there was a lot of forward flexing on the motor pylon.
@llledmarlll
@llledmarlll Жыл бұрын
This happened to me twice, the first time the servo dropped and the other time the propeller simply broke. I'm using the Gemfan 51466 V2 propeller, not articulated and that's the only way I was able to take off from the water. The performance of this propeller is better than the original one.

If you crash as often and as bad as I do 😱, then yes, this plastic frame piece that holds the aileron servo in will break. Once the servo comes off loose, it's a matter of time before the blades will strike it.

Ahhh. So the black aileron clamp on frames came loose causing the prop blades to hit and disintegrate? Is the foam material for the ailerons ok? Or do you need to order replacement along with aileron frame?
@RCBobOng

I have several big crashes to the point of breaking the fuselage/wings in half. Every time I've managed to glue everything back together after some hot water treatment to get the broken foam back into shape. It will be most useful to have some spares on hand whenever you need them. I do have a complete spare fuselage with all the plastic pieces ready to go for the next big ground smack. 🤣

Did the camera on the wing tip cause difficult maneuvering while in the air? The landing looked to be affected. 🤔 Yes the view was cool. The effect on the image in this video compared to the other two videos flying over the water that I saw; how do you explain the artifact in this one? Is it due to the lower voltage supplied by the 1S battery (3.7V) compared to the 5 V needed that you have as you described attached to an extra BEC that you mounted in the battery compartment as you described on another forum? Also it is very interesting to see how the ailerons maneuver short brief movements to adjust for any wind disturbance or manipulation. The camera images show quite a lot of the function on the tail end of this airplane. Great stuff!
@RCBobOng
@RCBobOng Жыл бұрын
Having read your comment again, I'm not sure if I understood correctly which artifact you're referring to. 🤣 If you're referring to the artifact on the prop, that's more to do with the 'shutter' speed of the camera. It always happens when under a bright sunny day. Those videos that were taken at the river were done quite late at sunset. Less light equals slower shutter speed, more mesh up of any movement.

@@RCBobOng excellent information! It’s amazing how quickly this Paptor elevates to high altitude. Mine came with a 3000kv brushless motor. Thank you! My setup is nothing too complicated. I have a piece of fibreglass tape over the top side of the hatch cover (near the plane's COG). That tape has a good wide base upon which I attached double sided foam tape that will hold the Runcam steady with its original mount. For this video, I used a small 1S 380mAh LiPo as power source and tucked it under the hatch cover with tape to stop it flopping around. Whole setup is plug and play. Hope that helps.

I guess maybe that's the reason why the stock prop is some weird size of 4.8", to give a little more clearance. Even so, with any rough positive G landing, it won't be long before something goes BANG! 🤣 It forces me to keep it smooth when touching down. Good habit for future bigger planes.
