You can use every part of this onion at various stages, the in ground bulbs are similar to shallots, the white of the stalk similar to brown onion, the tender leaves that of spring onion the top sets similar to that of white onion. The whites when young are much more mild and similar to leek without the distinctive flavor.

My grandparents used to live a 20 minute walk away. Would always make this hike. Absolutely loved it. Brings back great memories. Glad you get to share it with your family

Yes it can be grown indoors and it is perennial it will grow back in springtime if you don’t harvest the bulbs. Or you may grow the bulbsets or topsets.
