If you need to commute to down-town LA then "40 miles" sounds reasonable. However, it can take 90 minutes each way in the morning and evening commuter traffic. Forty years ago it took circa 60 minutes in morning traffic, but not today. A beautiful city and one I've been privileged to live in for 42 years----but don't drive South unless it's essential!
