If the RR is getting a 100kWh, that must mean you’re taking a different approach to the standard Leaf parts? Surely the Leaf BMS won’t handle that?
@ianlighting100
@ianlighting100 2 ай бұрын
Given you are splitting the Leaf battery into separate chunks, does the BMS get upset when measuring the cells that are now further apart? Is there more resistance that affects the readings?

Regarding Rapid charging, and since you’re based on a Leaf, am I right to think this is Chademo? Or do you provide CCS? Or is it Chademo with a 3rd party adaptor to use CCS chargers?

Interesting to watch the business planning aspect as much as the EV conversion itself

As a DIYer just starting on my own conversion (VW T2, Leaf donor, Resolve-EV VCU), would you mind sharing which electric brake vacuum you use please? I’m just starting looking at this and a bit overwhelmed with options and wide price variation. Looks like high end is £300 ish, low end can be under £100. Nice comprehensive video BTW, although personally would prefer the camera person to stay a bit more still!

If you wish to retain the classic numberplate and not be registered as a 'Q' class vehicle then you must not make ANY modifications to the original chassis or monocoque structure.

Great video’s guys, is there a big price difference with yourselves who use Leaf batteries etc and other companies who maybe use Tesla batteries, have you for example converted a Triumph Spitfire/ Tr7 and w what would be a typical cost for doing something like that. Many thanks
@CLEANCLASSICS
@CLEANCLASSICS 7 ай бұрын
Thanks Andrew! You’re right, using the Leaf along with batch ordering our vehicle specific system helps keep costs more sensible while keeping the quality as high as possible. The leaf motor has ample power and torque to do the job nicely without overloading the axles. Right now we’re focused on Series Land Rovers and don’t have immediate plans to convert any Triumphs - we do think they’d make really cool EV’s though!

Great video, Thanks for putting it together. A couple questions for you. Are you using the LT230 with the 1.2 gear ratio? Also, can you explain why you chose to run a propshaft between the motor and transfer case rather than directly attaching the motor to the transfer case? That would create more room in the engine compartment for batteries and such.
@CLEANCLASSICS
@CLEANCLASSICS 9 ай бұрын
Hi Jim, thanks for the great questions! We've just shot another episode with a direct answer for you - I'll post the link once it's live! The short answer is we use the 1.667:1 ratio in the LT230 and the Leaf motor is too wide to fit directly onto it as it clashes with the diff housing. More detail to follow in the video after next!

If the vehicle is fitted with its original engine and gearbox I hope these are kept with the vehicle, I am dead against these conversations, you are only the keeper of a classic car, they are not making any more.
@CLEANCLASSICS
@CLEANCLASSICS 9 ай бұрын
Our system swaps the orginal gearbox for an LT230 transfer box and is all fitted with zero cutting drilling or welding the orginal material of the vehicle. We always give the owner the option to keep hold of the orignal engine and gearbox adn our system is dead easy to swap back out if the owner was to choose to do so. We agree these classics need to be looked after and we have designed our system to help preserve these old vehicles by keeping them in use and well maintained.

@@CLEANCLASSICS That’s good to hear but I still think it’s wrong if the vehicle is in original condition, I can understand if it’s been heavily modified in life and has lost its original engine and box etc, if you have the money and need for an electric vehicle look at something purpose built to buy not take a rare genuine vehicle and turn Into an electric one, it’s like buying a listed house then wanting to change all the old windows for new plastic double glazed ones because they are more efficient.

@@cblack1green Do people really care that much about old 1.6 or 2.0 litre BL diesel engines? I can understand the concern about the six cylinder petrol engines from cars like the MGC and Triumph Vitesse, but not the smaller Austin A series engines (particularly considering how many of those have been rebored or otherwise modified).

@davemoore5222 9 ай бұрын
@@cblack1green I am sure that you have everybody’s permission to buy up as many Series Land Rovers as you can afford and preserve them however you wish, but likewise I would never tell anyone else what they must do regarding their own purchases - they paid the money so the choice is theirs. However, I am sure there will be owners who’s engines are missing, or no longer viable, who would be more than happy to purchase unwanted engines from people considering a change to electric power for their own vehicles (or perhaps a full vehicle for vehicle swap with, maybe, monetary adjustments either way, thereby maintaining ‘matching numbers’ for instance).

Before even start the conversion, you should consider a better vehicle. Large classic SUVs are heavy and have bad aerodynamics so its not a good selectrion for an efficient convertion.

I would love to convert my wifes 4 DR 4WD 1989 Isuzu Trooper to electric. Its lightweight and is stripped at the moment with the engine and transmission out of it. I had it repainted inside out and just haven't rebuilt the engine for it yet. Wiring harness is not back in it yet either. I even have a brand new, late model transfercase from an automatic transmission that can be ran as a divorced t case really easy too! Both axles have been rebuilt and I regeared the differentials.(ARB lockers etc) The Corporate 10 bolt front diff (dana 44 equivalent) and there is a HD Corporate 12 bolt rear diff ( Dana 60 equivalent) Its a good looking SUV! It was Japans answer to the Series 1's. My son loves his Tesla but my wife wants an electric SUV rather than an electric car. I like to build cars and hot rods, so a kit is in my wheelhouse. I'm also a retired power company technician and owned a custom fabrication buisness after retirement. Let me know when you get universal kits on the market.

Don’t do it because EV’s are fucking stupid. Have you actually researched into how much ore it takes for one battery? Or how much diesel the machinery uses mining the ore? Or perhaps who lying, money grabbing prats have looked at the ecological fuck up the nickel/ lithium mines are causing their surrounding areas? Oh but you don’t care about that because nothing comes out of the exhaust pipe and you can make a lot of money out of lying to people. Knobs.
