How would you highlight the differences between OG and Wilson Reading System for a child with dyslexia?
@theteachingcorner6738Ай бұрын
O-G is the umbrella approach that is the gold standard for multisensory teaching. It can be used with any program. Wilson is an Orton-Gillingham based program so it falls under the O-G umbrella. As with any program, it has a less flexibility as it has a scope and sequence that and 80% of the class is supposed to be at 80% before they move on. O-G is more individualized and more flexible than Wilson but does not come with ready made lesson plans because it is an appoach not a program.

I apologize. I could not find it either when I retried. This video was posted 2 years ago and the link worked when it was posted. They must have taken it down.

Excellent video, thank you. Do you recommend in person training over online?
@theteachingcorner67383 ай бұрын
I think it is up to you. I personally prefer to be in person, but with the way the world is now, sometimes online is easier for people to access.

Why is writing at 45 degree angles important ?
@theteachingcorner67383 ай бұрын
The slant keeps the paper parallel to their arm and allows them to see what they have written.

Thank you for detailing the OGA and explaining how people become certified. Certification does matter when teachers are dealing with Tier 2 and 3 students.

Hi! I'm from Brazil. Here we don't have a lot of information about reading, writing anf mathematics strategies and researchs. God blessed you!

Very nice. I have a few questions as I'm working on improving my writing. For 'b' could you draw it in one continuous line without backtracking or does it write out better that way? On both 'f' and 't' I find it much easier to cross them from right to left, is that something that would be better to correct or does it not matter? On 'm' it was different from swooping back up but was a stick plus the bumps unlike 'n', was this just a typo so to speak? Also I find that is much easier to write 'y' similarly to 'u' and 'g' even though it looks more like them than a sharper letter writing it that way seems to be much more smooth.
@theteachingcorner67383 ай бұрын
What I am showing here comes from continuous print. While there are many different ways to write a letter, this ensures that the student does not pick up their pencil.

How can I get the hours if im not activelly teaching in a classroom?
@michellenorris7151 Жыл бұрын
You can tutor one on one. There are a lot of families looking for O-G tutors outside of school.
Thank you so much. I love this and I love that you are showing us the ASL signs to go with them. Can't wait to use this with my students.

can use this strategy with kindergarten?
@theteachingcorner67383 ай бұрын
It is hard for students that age to think ahead as they are still very concrete. It is more for 3rd grade and up.

Thanks for sharing. After watching "Little House on the Prairie" MANY times, I got curious and bought McGuffey Readers through eBay. I purchased some dating back to the late 1800s. I wish I had bought them when my kids were school-aged. Regardless, I can use them when I tutor. I love 'em...phonics based, easy to follow, clear and to the point.

I completely agree that ASL does not hinder children from using other forms of communication. If they have the ability to talk they will. It’s a lot easier to just say it then have to think of the sign for what they want to say. I wish doctors and other professionals in the deaf and hard of hearing field would stop saying that.
@tonyaatkins23112 жыл бұрын
I think infants and toddlers should be taught sign language if that’s the method their parents choose. They need to be taught sign as early as possible. If you wait till preschool they could already be delayed.

Currently enrolled and could agree more whole heartedly. The course is fantastic - well worth every penny. While I am raking the course online, I was sent the various manipulative used beforehand. Marilyn is extremely generous with her materials, masters, etc. can’t recommend more highly: for homeschoolers, teachers, SpE, math coaches, principals, superintendents, parents, tutors…….

This is really good , especially for those who have no knowledge (or haven't needed to apply this). These suggestions are really good for the children you are describing as well because doing these things helps the student/child participate in their own care and daily life.
