00:10:55 Chapter 8, Review Question 3. How can we discern whether the leading of the Spirit is legitimate today? Did anyone ever answer that? A lot of discussion about God’s will. But this doesn’t answer the question.

00:10:58 great question. It is the still small voice. And Satan uses scripture. He used it to tempt Eve. He used it in the dessert and the Garden of Gethsemane to tempt Jesus. As we grow in our relationship with Christ, the keener and quicker we become in our ability to discern. And so much more. Books can be written on it. I’ve absolutely had experiences that make so sense like the person taking the gallon of milk to the person who had been praying for it. This kind of leading comes from a daily deep fellowship and relationship. I’ve got so many stories just like that, where God guided me to not go somewhere or to go give a certain homeless person my meal, etc. etc. I’ve been on the receiving end of the milk example where God made ways where there was no way when He led me to make clearly God led sacrificial decisions that led to seeing God perform miracles!!! I could write a book!!! Had I disobeyed I would have totally missed God and fallen into who knows the unseen calamity on the other side. This doesn’t effectively answer the workbook question. But it sure reminds me of how real, powerful and good God is.

1:00ish, help me understand if systematic theology is taking into account what the Bible has to say as a whole on a topic, help me understand how book studies are more accurate than topical sermons/teachings. I expected it to be the other way around. However, I can see how book studies are extremely advantageous. That’s how the sermons are scheduled at the church we attend here in Ohio. I have read the Bible through several times and do see how it REALLY opens our eyes to what the scripture has to say as a whole. And our pastor does incorporate scripture to interpret scripture outside the book/chapter with supporting references. Perhaps I’ve answered my own question.

Dear friend, neither Paul nor Peter ever taught a physical resurrection. Your quote from the First Corinthians 15:35-58 demonstrates the clear difference between the physical and the spiritual bodies. Many people thought that the literal physical corps were to come out of the literal graves as being resurrected and that’s why apostle Paul mentions the foolishness of such a notion being accounted as the so called resurrection: “But someone will ask, “How are the dead raised? With what kind of body will they come?” How foolish! What you sow does not come to life unless it dies.” (1 Corinthians 15:35-36 NLT) The Bible teaches that human beings have two aspects: the physical and the spiritual. In other words: body and Soul (spirit). The words souls and spirit are interchangeably used in the Bible and are synonyms. “… God, who has given us the Spirit as a deposit, guaranteeing what is to come. Therefore we are always confident and know that as long as we are at home in the body we are away from the Lord.….. We are confident, I say, and would prefer to be away from the body and at home with the Lord.“ (2 corinthians 5:1-10 NIV) So we are either in the body, away from the Lord or after death we are spirits or souls and we will be with the Lord. There is nothing unclear about that. The following verse further clarified the existence of the physical body and the spirit/soul and sometimes the word ghost is used instead of the spirit or soul. “May God himself, the God of peace, sanctify you through and through. May your whole spirit, soul and body be kept blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.” (1 Thessalonians 5:23 NIV) Again there is only body and soul: “Do not be afraid of those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. Rather, be afraid of the One who can destroy both soul and body in hell.” (Matthew 10:28 NIV) “What good will it be for someone to gain the whole world, yet forfeit their soul? Or what can anyone give in exchange for their soul?” (Matthew 16:26 NIV) “… what can anyone give in exchange for their soul?” (Mark 8:37 NIV) “And Mary said: “My soul glorifies the Lord.” (Luke 1:46 NIV) “Dear friend, I pray that you may enjoy good health and that all may go well with you, even as your soul is getting along well.” (3 John 1:2 NIV) Even Stephen whine being stoned to death speaks of his spirit: While they were stoning him, Stephen prayed, “Lord Jesus, receive my spirit.” (Acts 7:59 NIV) And even Jesus mentions his own spirit just before he died: “Jesus called out with a loud voice, “Father, into your hands I commit my spirit.” When he had said this, he breathed his last.” (Luke 23:46 NIV) The Old Testament is also clear that after death, the body and soul go their own separate ways: “and the dust returns to the ground it came from, and the spirit returns to God who gave it.” (Ecclesiastes 12:7 NIV) Every verse in the Bible should be viewed in the light of every other verse in the Bible, because one verse and its interpretation cannot contradict another verse with its own interpretation. True eternal resurrection also means the recognition of the divine truth when it is revealed. The Jews who recognized the Christ and the truth of his teachings were truly resurrected and resuscitated spiritually. This is why Jesus said: Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. The one who believes in me will live, even though they die”. (John 11:25 NIV) So belief in Christ and his teachings were the resurrection and the life and nothing else. We also read the following: “The Spirit gives life; the flesh counts for nothing. The words I have spoken to you-they are full of the Spirit and life.” (John 6:63 NIV) When a person understood and recognized Christ and the words he spoke--that was the true resurrection which was the eternal life. The mind governed by the flesh is death, but the mind governed by the Spirit is life and peace. (Romans 8:6 NIV)

Very few men are standing for the truth in these troubling times. Marin Bible Church is blessed to have Dr. Craig wield the sword with faithfulness, boldness, and God-centered passion. “I charge you in the presence of God and of Christ Jesus, who is to judge the living and the dead, and by his appearing and his kingdom: preach the word; be ready in season and out of season; reprove, rebuke, and exhort, with complete patience and teaching. For the time is coming when people will not endure sound teaching, but having itching ears they will accumulate for themselves teachers to suit their own passions, and will turn away from listening to the truth and wander off into myths. As for you, always be sober-minded, endure suffering, do the work of an evangelist, fulfill your ministry.” (2 Timothy 4:1-5, ESV)

Great video. I am loving these lessons as I am doing systematic theology at home. Question about guardian angels. How does the concept of them not existing fit with Hebrews 1:14: "Are not all angels ministering spirits sent to serve those who will inherit salvation?" Also, Psalm 91:11: "God will command his angels concerning you to guard you in all your ways"? Thanks

Sorry I stopped watching after 2 minutes when Mr Craig implied that only "Baptist" baptism was believer's baptism. All Christian churches - Roman Catholic, Eastern Orthodox, Reformed - all practice Believer's Baptism. Roman Catholic, Eastern Orthodox, and Reformed Churches administer the mystery of baptism in the context of repentance and faith. The tragedy is that Baptist have turned a means of grace, whereby adopts a person as his child, into a commitment ceremony with the focus of the individual.

This video says (19:45) that paedobaptists have to infer that there were infants present and participating in the household baptisms in the Book of Acts. Is that so? Would that inference be more speculative than his inference that such people were absent or excluded from participating? For those practicing biblical Baptism, the presence or absence, exclusion or inclusion of infants at any particular Baptism recorded in Acts is largely irrelevant, because the practice of infant baptism is based on an understanding of what Baptism is according to the Scriptures, and on the absence of any specific exclusion of infants when Jesus sends the church to make disciples of “all nations” by baptizing and teaching in Matthew 28. That Luke wasn’t terribly specific when he recorded household baptisms simply has no bearing on the practice of infant baptism.

That having been said, infants and small children are commonly, perhaps even normally, a part of large households. As were slaves. If a “credible profession of faith” is a necessary condition to qualify as a candidate for baptism, why doesn’t Acts say more about the church probing the allegedly professed conversions of the household slaves? Wouldn’t they want to at least ask if they were motivated by a desire to please their masters? The inference that babies and small children were absent or excluded, and the inference that the church was super careful not to baptize other adult household members unless they were confident that a real conversion had taken place, seems to require a higher degree of speculation than simply assuming that these were normal households and everyone was baptized.

The fact that Jesus commands Baptism (~19:15) does not make it inappropriate to baptize infants. Read Matthew 28:16-20. Jesus does not command the world to get baptized. He commands the disciples (and, more specifically the twelve) to baptize the world. Again, it goes to the question of whose action is Baptism? Is it yours? Is Baptism your act, your symbol, communicating to God and to the world the glorious thing that has happened to you? No. It is Jesus washing away your sins through the hands of those He has sent. So, what if babies can’t follow orders? The orders have been given to the church; not to the objects of Baptism.

What a treasure-trove of misinformation! Three minutes and twenty-one seconds in and your teacher doesn’t know that Lutherans teach baptismal regeneration. He doesn’t credit Lutherans with regarding Baptism as a sacrament. And he has indicated that the people receiving baptism are the primary actors in this symbol, which is why matters that they know what is going on; even though the Bible is sufficiently clear that Baptism is God’s work. He is the subject. You are the object. The verbs are His work; not yours. But this guy is going to ignore all that and teach his made up dogmas instead of the Bible.
