Will this save fuel or only add towing capacity to the truck?
@BrogenPowertrain
@BrogenPowertrain 4 сағат бұрын
This electric axle can save fuel. It's suitable for battery electric trucks as well as fuel tractors. For example, compared to fuel-powered truck, a 49-ton EV tractor with this eaxle can save annual fuel costs of about $40,000 in single-container transportation.

Will this apply with hybrid electric vehicles where a compact biofuel engine recharges the battery so that battery powers the electric motor the rest of the way? Like a Diesel Electric locomotive?

caveman love to talk trash about EVs, although not perfect yet, EVs are the future and will replace gas vehicles. Its been made political, but before the dividing politicians and media (one in the same) started attacking Elon, most people wanted this. Some of us love the roar of a gasoline car, and also appreciate the advantages of EVs. The engine in a car will never be as efficient as a highly efficient power plant that supplies electric to the grid.

@@user-dc2ot2tj2b In English we have a phrase ... Horses for courses ... meaning you should pick the right motors for the job.. The big problem is ICE motors are Complex to make and maintain they are also desperately inefficient. Also they constantly consume what is essentially a finite, none recyclable resource. A usefull comparison summery.. 👍🏼🇬🇧🧙‍♂️ though the artificial voice is accurate its still prefferable to use a human narrator. You might want to take a look at the advantages and design of Rare earth/ permanent magnet free motors verses perment magnet motors. Dont forget that Copper reserves are also under pressure and that the PMF motors can also do without copper windings saving wt. money and reducing pressure on the already struggling reserves.

This is the challenge faced by in-hub motors, but the axial flux motor isn't limited to in-hub installation. It can be installed in the same places as the PMSM motor, but saves more space in the vehicle layout.

Since there is no need for a yooje engine to consume a lot of volume in one spot, the motors can be smaller, and placed onto each wheel, which lowers the center of gravity contribution the engine used to make. The same with the batteries, the heaviest component in the vehicle. Low to the ground adds stability. Plus, we no longer need all the complicated shapes of the support beams. And I just had a thought: Battery packs should be designed to crumple on impact, not only folding each cell onto the next, so they stack and absorb impact momentum, but also disconnecting each cell from the others so the chances of a fire are reduced.

Yeah! There already exist hub motors where the motor, transmission and brake systems are integrated into the wheel hub. As the single hub motor can be driven independently, it is relatively easy to implement whether it is front-wheel drive, rear-wheel drive, or four-wheel drive. Plus, the hub motor can realize differential steering similar to that of a tracked vehicle by the different speeds of the left and right wheels or even reverse rotation, which greatly reduces the turning radius of the vehicle. Under special circumstances, it can almost achieve in-situ steering (but at this time, the vehicle steering structure and tire wear is greater), and is valuable for special vehicles.
@BrogenPowertrain
@BrogenPowertrain 5 ай бұрын
But the hub motor works in a harsh environment and is affected by water, dust and other factors. It also has high requirements in terms of sealing. At the same time, the heat dissipation issue of the in-wheel motor needs to be considered separately in the design.

It depends on the operating conditions. For short-haul trucks, the range can meet the daily needs, so the battery swapping frequency won't be so high. Electric mining trucks utilize regenerative braking, recycling electricity downhill, averaging approximately 8 kWh per km of uphill and downhill travel.
