With all due respect to the Singapore foreign minister the problem the death penalty in singapore when it comes is to drugs is not that its applied , but more that you get the death penalty for ridiculously low amounts of drugs in other countrys even some other asian nations you have to smuggle several kilos before being elligable for the death sentence while singapore its barely a few grams there is an enourmous dispropportion in executing a humanbeing for a barely a few hundred grams of drugs thats the problem.

Very interesting take on his view on the death penalty. I would like to ask him though: is Singapore's low crime really due to the existence of the death penalty? Or is it more so due to culture and a smaller, possibly easier to control population? Does singapore have crime that gives you life in prison with no parole? I am from the US and think we should abolish the death penalty, replacing it with life in prison with no parole. I would suggest using life in prison for cases like murder, rape, and human trafficking, and false accusations of such crimes. If anyone has seen videos of criminals reacting to life sentences, you will know why I would suggest this.

No matter what penalty as long as u dont commit the crime u will be fine so what are they debating ? Better rights for ppl who knowlingly commit the crime ? The speaker of human rights has anyone in your family takes drug and due to no money for drugs started to rob and kill ? Have u seen a family broken due to drug issue ? If you dont stay in singapore just stfu and mind your own business. If you are free u can go russia talk about human rights when they bomb ukraine , if you are free why dont you go talk to israel when they bomb gaza , if you are free why not you go North Korea talk to Kim about human rights? You debate with singapore because you are scared of big countries so you chose singapore to show the world you are doing something to help the world.clap clap bravo 😂😂

There are many ignorant foreigners everywhere on a country they "like" related videos singing praises about the country they do not have seven generations of...not realising in this day and age every country is the same and as humans, are all connected...ever ask any suffering locals before you even visit the country? I would...sure there are other 100 countries plus that are also more wonderful places to visit or live in but as balance I would see the ugly side as well...

depriving a criminal of their freedom by taking them to jail is also against human right how is death penalty any different those countries that claim to be champions of human rights, what are they doing when they are supporting israel mass slaughtering innocents not only that, they are funding a state that makes it legal to torture prisoners including civilians that are not even charged of any crimes every single human being that entered singapore has agreed to the law of singapore they are basically waiving away their right to live by carrying substantial amount of drugs

Tbh Western ideals of "every life is sacred" is the most hypocritical and naive statement i've ever heard. I've lived in Singapore most of my life and moved to the US for work. Barely half a year in the US, I've seen the worst of the Fentanyl crisis. I've already encountered junkies passed out in public bathrooms and homeless junky slums where they gather in tents at public parks to get high together, and crime in these neighbourhoods are just sky high. The 15+ years I lived in Singapore, I've met 0 junkies, ZERO. No fentanyl crisis, no homeless slums, NONE So tell me again how the death penalty doesn't work.

The sanctity of life doesn’t diminish when you commit a grievous crime. The sacredness of life is not measured based on the goodness or the evil a person does. All lives is sacred. Enforcement of laws doesn’t have to be at the expense of taking away life. It is a convenient way of law enforcement by employing fear in the people. The question is, “will our society be more merciful and forgiving, if we don’t have the death penalty?” Or are we more hateful and vengeful when we have it? Should a human being be given a chance to repent? The answer will reflect the attitude of our law makers toward criminals and people who may be less fortunate in their lives circumstances.

The good Minister put forward his case not as an argument but as a contribution to the understanding of the painful issue of the death penalty with so much respect for the other nations' diverse views and practices, and get across Singapore's stand so succinctly and making it clear that he is not preaching to others how they should view the death penalty, is so elegantly put forward. He has my deep respect.
