As a writer for broadcasting I had a gay actor declining playing a gay role, and a straight actor asking for his character to be gay. The second got his wish. Provided the character is well scripted and the director knows what he or she is doing, the actor's sexual orientation will not be an issue. As a writer I had to imagine all kinds of personalities, professions, backgrounds and more to tell a story. Provided you do the research so you can adjust and add facts, you can make any scenario or character seem credible.

Frankly, I also thought the 3rd season was the best. The acting was superb. And throughout all 3 seasons, I love the way music was woven with plot and characters. Nah, Season 3 was great tbh. Season 2 is what would have killed the show, the consistent plot going back and forth of "will Nick come out, or not?" and pretty much rehashing the storyline of Nick and Charlie being in their honeymoon phase until like Episode 7. Not to mention the overbearing amount of Tao/Elle that was completely unnecessary, and they sidelined Tara/Darcy even if they had the more interesting side plot, this includes Isaac's useless plot that I didn't care about at all(sorry, not sorry, but bookworm needs to find a personality besides reading a book in every scene) I actually loved the 1st episode, which is disappointing because it all went downhill from there, even the extended Finale was embarrassing and drawn out lol. The best part of the season was Episode 1 and the final 10 minutes of the Season 2 Finale.

Ok so I see where you are coming from with this video but i very much feel your "research" wasn't really done properly. The reason that they have no idea about a 4th season is mostly based on the fact that volume 6 is still not fully complete which is what season 4 will be based on so no no one has a clue as to if there will be a season 4 yet until the final volume is released.. yes views and stuff might be down but the fact there is no source material for the final season is probably the main contributing factor and yes season 4 would be the very final season seeing as volume 6 is going to be the end of the Nick and Charlie story so you cant keep a series going when the source material says that its the end for their story. Darcy's character has been re written for the actor to be a lot more comfortable within themselves and to be able to portray the character properly they need to be able to be comfortable was it done the best no but it was not to tick all the boxes or to have a more diverse story it was literally to make the whole thing more accommodating specially when this show is fully supporting diversity if the writer of the show (who is also the writer of the book) was to say no sorry cant do that its not the character it would be fully going against supporting and celebrating the exact things the book and show is trying to put in a positive light. Also to say that the show has but all these dark topics in it shows that you may have really not fully looked at the source material either because this is honestly the one book to TV thing i have seen that is almost 100% true and honest to the source material did they need to make some small changed yes but so does everything that goes from a book was it only the things that had to be changed due to real life circumstances also yes. Also the whole thing about Isaacs personality and also Tao and elles relationship is it is meant to be annoying and you are meant to get frustrated and annoyed but at the same time see what is really behind how they are acting.

They didn’t make Darcy nonbinary to fill a diversity quota. The actor who plays Darcy came out as nonbinary (he/they pronouns) after filming S1, and that storyline was incorporated to make him feel more comfortable. You can feel it was forced or dislike how it played out, but the actor, like Darcy, was a teenager who initially identified as a queer woman and then realized that wasn’t who they were so it does happen. The dip in viewership is concerning, but I can’t say I agree with any of your other takes. I personally found the front half of the season stronger and thought Charlie’s journey and his relationship with Nick was still the most compelling part of the show, though imo Elle had the strongest B (secondary) plot. Isaac is also only frustrated with feeling left out (and with Tao specifically) for like 1.5 episodes, and he apologizes for being snippy… the way you went off on him you’d think he spends the whole season shitting on people’s relationships lol.

@@normaladjacent i agree tao and elle best plot. Issac does do this for half a season so it's not a whole season but damn it sure is half. I believe changing a character because the actor became nonbinary is the definition of forcing a character to change unnaturally but I can sympathize with wanting to make the actor feel comfortable. I just think the first half could have been done better I could write it all out the reasons but that would take a while.

Just like gay actors should be allowed to compete for ANY role, straight actors should be allowed to compete for ANY role. If you know the story of the casting for Red, White, and Royal Blue, Matthew Lopez chose Nick first, for his acting talent. He said it was a no-brainer once he found out that Nick was available. The thing about the whole Nicholas being straight thing is everyone turns into a 'should str8 men play gay?' thing, which is a ridiculous argument because actors are actors their personal life doesn't matter, however, the thing we should be criticising is using said gay roles to amass fame and playing so many gay roles that it starts to insulate that you are yourself queer. Nick has played a large amount of gay roles, more than most gay actors, and waiting till the possible last minute to come out as straight publicly was 100 percent strategic and should be called out. I hate that gays are so blinded by how hot he is to acknowledge that. He's.a great actor but he definitely did queer bait his fandom as someone who has followed him since the handsome devil.

Outside of his movie "career," Matt Walsh (the man) targets anyone not like him, specifically 53% of the American population (women), coupled with his views as to how women should "be", LGBTQ people and people of color are ALWAYS in his cross hairs as well, he's just another cracker who hates everyone. I would never say that a movie can't cleverly cover bigotry and hatred of others as a premise, but in reality, sensitivity programs are put in place so those who are targeted by hate and prejudice have recourse and safety. He constantly calls into question the right to basic existence of people who are not like him and wants to tear down the avenues of opportunity that give marginalized people a voice.

Rather than him choosing to play gay roles, he might be getting somewhat typecast by casting directors. Back in the 80s and 90s - with fewer movies about LGBTQ characters - lots of actors were hesitant to take on such roles for that very reason. Unless you were a MASSIVE name in Hollywood (e.g. Tom Hanks or Eddie Redmayne type big), playing an LGBTQ role could actually limit the acting roles available to you.? Why? Because (again) casting directors assumed that actors known for playing gay roles would be less likely to be accepted by audiences (especially women) when playing a straight (read "masculine") heroes. (and yeah - all of this is dumb as a bag of rocks) As a gay man, I can see how it would be annoying for gay actors to be passed over to play a gay character in favour of straight actors - especially where I don't think we're yet in a place where the reverse would be true. But if you're gonna say "gay characters can only be played by gay actors", would also say that "straight roles can only be played by straight actors"? That's a slippery slope that I don't think we want to go down. Also, I don't care if he gets a role in Red, White and Royal Blue. I know it's a popular movie on Netflix, but it was cheesy as hell and just irritates me with how cliche and lacking in reality it is. Mind you, if he can make a successful career from churning out stuff like that then - do you know what - good for him! Maybe it'll actually change mindsets and open up opportunities for other LGBTQ actors.
