Overall the UV light kills all bacteria in the water that flows through it, good and bad. Maybe over a period of time the UV light could kill all the bacteria in the pond, but I'd be surprised if it could. If you have an automatic dosing system, make sure the bacteria is added after the UV lights if you decide to use them. We start a lot of ponds every year, all are clear, none have UV lights. But I digress...

Some box stores sell pond foam, but it's in the DIY can. We would consider giving up pond building if we had to use those on every project... Another, please don't use yellow foam! It's, um, not pretty.

If you can’t find the pump, having someone look over the pond who does it professionally may be beneficial. They may be able to show you the basics of how it’s built, and how the system should work. Good eye! There is a lot of rock on this one. The homeowner wanted it this way, and asked us to "rebuild with minor changes at the waterfalls at the artists discretion". We re-used the rock that was onsite. With absolutely no machine access without major landscape changes and tree loss, the access to this site is just shy of one of the hardest we've done. There was nowhere else to put the rock, and they didn't want us to haul them all out by hand. A few rocks may have ended up down the hill, as when you let go of a rock it would take off!
