Yep I did that years ago with my first cherokee, I put in a slightly bigger tray too. When my first cherokee burned up, I took that tray out, along with everything else salvageable. Now my 93 has that tray. Gotta get a new group 34 battery though.

I am currently running with the np231. I had to modify it years ago by swapping out the gear so it would bolt up to my AX15. It was originally connected to the Peugeot b/a. I could've bought a new transfer case for like $300 or use my original and swap a gear. In the end it was cheaper, and since I opened the case I got to redo the seal all the way around and give it brand new fluids.

Would an ax15 out of 92 Cherokee (internal slave) have the front plate already included if it comes with the bell housing? Or is that something I have to buy separately?
@kenzjeep8274
@kenzjeep8274 10 ай бұрын
Hello, if the transmission your getting is setup for the "internal" slave setup you will have to get a new front plate for the transmission. They are different plates so if you plan on going with the "external" slave setup you will have to track down that plate, and make sure the bellhousing matches.

Few things here AX 15s ran from 89-99, 89-93 internal 94-99 external. pilot bushing early (1989 to 1991) at ~19/32" and late (1992 on) at ~3/4” Note to run a 92 or later AX15 in a 87-90 4.2 you need to special order a pilot bushing from novak. Clutch Master Cylinders from 91 and up are not the same as 87-90 and do not mount the same.

It is a bell housing for the AX15. There are 2 types but the have the same exact bolt pattern to connect with the engine but one will work for an internal slave cylinder and the other is designed to use the external slave setup.

Oh man, when i first saw this comment 2 days ago I thought this would be an easy google search but it seems this is a common problem. If your looking for specific numbers, honestly I just don't know. If you have access to a Junkyard that may be the best place to find these "specialty bolts" but as I mentioned in the video, they are extremely soft and strip easy so would be a good idea to replace them when you can. I found this post on NAXJA hope this helps. 5/16-24 (or 5/16 UNF) www.naxja.org/forum/showthread.php?t=74193

Instead of shaving off the driveshaft an eight of an inch. I could just buy a driveshaft for a 90s Cherokee right?
@kenzjeep8274
@kenzjeep8274 2 жыл бұрын
Yes, different years of Jeeps have different lengths of driveshafts, but just to be on the safe side I recommend getting a double cardan shaft that can expand and contract as needed. I just mentioned this issue if you don't have a lift kit, or if your springs/leaves are sagging or worn. It is pretty rare, but i thought it was worth mentioning for those in this situation.

Not sure if i covered it in the video, but with my Peugeot transmission I had to replace the internal slave cylinder 4 times within 6 years or so. These internal cylinders are problematic and it is a headache each time you have to replace it. The whole transmission/exhaust/wires/hoses/transfer case all need to be removed just to get to it, then it all has to be reinstalled. 2 times I did this job the internal slave was actually faulty and I had to do it all AGAIN. Huge headache every time. I was willing to put in the work for a small scavenger hunt to find everything for the "external slave" setup, and I hope this somehow helps others who may be in the same situation I ws in. I did have to replace my external slave a while back, but it only took me 20min and it gave me over 5 years of service (with heavy use). Definitely worth it if you plan on driving your Jeep for many more years to come.

All these years you are the first person to point this out. I did flip it around before installing it, but nice catch! You've probably completed this at this point, but it'll probably help the algorithm or something; I'd do a solid colour, and the specific adhesive doesn't matter, both work great from what I've heard. Keep up the good work, I loved your video on the Peugeot (Püjoe)/AX-15 Swap!

Hopefully I can finally get it done in the next couple weeks and ill be sure to make/post the video. Have you done headliner before? Or do you have any tips or tricks?... Great video, thanks for posting. Love it. I have an 87 Cherokee that I will be doing the Peugeot swap to AX15 external slave. Have a couple of questions for you: 1) Which Flywheel did you go with? I’m thinking about the Luk LFW 194 2) Which starter? LFW 194 is 10.669” diameter while LFW 193 is 10.9”. These external aX15 Cherokees had the LFW 193 stock but I think I need the smaller 194 because of Renix CPS system. Will the smaller diameter flywheel with this Bellhouse be an issue for a starter to grab the flywheel teeth correctly?
@kenzjeep8274
@kenzjeep8274 2 жыл бұрын
When i replaced my Flywheel honestly I just went to RockAuto and got the LUK 194 and everything works fine on my 89 Cherokee with Renix. I did notice that RockAuto has "SACHS NFW2006" that claims to fit both BA 10/5 and AX15. They also have a "Platinum Driveline FW004" that claims the same. After seeing interchangeable flywheels i didn't give it much thought about CPS magnets or starter teeth. I can tell you my original CPS and Starter fit just fine and I've had no problems with them.

The AX15 should bolt right up to the 4.0 engine no problems, but with the transfer case you may have an issue, or you may not. With older transfer cases they may be 21 spline (for the input gear) and your AX15 should be 23 splines (output gear). I ran into this with mine, so i ended up buying a new gear so i could use my original transfer case. There is a wealth of information on this Novak conversions website. www.novak-adapt.com/knowledge/transmissions/manual/ax15/
