Congrats to Kendra! Will this pattern be available in a printed format in the future? I love the bag, but don't do well printing them out myself.

Is Peltic and decovil lite the same? If using cotton is SF101 an adequate med weight stabilizer?
@LindsHandmadeDesigns3 сағат бұрын
Peltex and decovil light are not the same at all. If you have decovil heavy, that would be a good substitute for the peltex in the base. As for a the sf 101, that’s too lightweight in my opinion. You’d need 2 layers to equal a “midweight” or medium weight woven interfacing. I personally love the Pixiefuse premium from Royal Pixie custom fabric or the cotton soft from geekyhardware.com.

Going to make this bag today but have a question about the peek a boo gusset. If I’m using quilting cotton for the peek a boo do I need to apply stabilizer (out of the seams) as well as interfacing or just the interfacing? I have both.
@LindsHandmadeDesignsКүн бұрын
The medium weight interfacing should be just fine.

Hi Lind, I’m looking to purchase the Utrafeed Sailrite sewing machine. I see there are two option. The LSZ and the LS Walking foot Sewing Machine. Which one would you recommend? Thank you.
@LindsHandmadeDesigns2 күн бұрын
I got the LS which is the rust colored machine. It has a narrower foot which I wanted and does NOT have a zig zag option as I have no need for that function in bag making personally. The LSZ is the pretty blue machine. The foot is much wider but it does have a needle positioner option so you can get the needle closer to your project if need be and it has the zig zag option. This machine runs a couple hundred dollars more and I didn’t find those added features worth the price difference for me. I would recommend getting a left and right zipper foot and extra bobbins as it only comes with 4. That’s the only other “extras” I’d recommend to start.
@evettevalle2368Күн бұрын
@@LindsHandmadeDesigns Thank you. For the information. I haven’t decided which one I’m going to get yet. How much wider is the foot in the LSZ do you know?

Hi Linds. I am also on your fb page too and I thought maybe you had links to your marking pencils...I see white and black..that do really well with the vinyls. And also where do you get your 1/8th inch tape. that actually sticks...lol THANKS for sharing all this with me!
@LindsHandmadeDesigns4 күн бұрын
I use the silver marking pen from weftandwarpco. The ⅛” DST is from wawak ☺️. Anything dark that doesn’t need to be removable I’ll just use a standard pen.
@AnneMarieMitchell-om3gr2 күн бұрын
I’m not Linds, but a long time bag maker & sewing instructor. I do believe the black ink is a Frixion pen (available at most big box stores), the white looking ink is a refillable silver ink pen from Tandy Leather or Moremeknow, and the double sided tape is most likely from Weft and Warp Co (1/8” tape has that smaller, plastic ring in the center). Other bag making suppliers also sell great 1/8” & 1/4” double sided tape, but that W&WCo tape is awesome. (If you find that DST sticks to your sewing machine needle, you can add a little Sewer’s Aid or sewing machine oil to your needle) Good luck on your bag making journey!!!

How wide is your zipper tape? Mine is 1 1\4” wide so it added half a inch to the zipper gusset 🤔
@LindsHandmadeDesigns10 күн бұрын
Long story short, 3 of my testers ended up having their zipper panel be too narrow despite being certain they did an accurate SA. I was at a total loss because it was a perfect fit for me (or I only needed to trim a scant ⅛” off each side for all my test makes) as well as all my other testers and their zipper panels. BUT since they had to redo their entire zipper panel being too narrow, I decided after this video, to add a ¼” to each zipper panel side so people would have to trim down instead of redo that entire section 😵💫. Unfortunately all these new fancy speciality zipper tapes aren’t as standard in width as they once were. Some I’m finding to be a little less than 1 ¼” wide and others almost 1 ⅜” wide! 😮. When it comes to a gusseted bag, these things end up being a big problem.

Just watched your tutorial and can't wait to make this bag, you make it look doable! I generally use faux leather and WPC but am thinking perhaps my first one should be quilt cotton or WPC exterior and quilt cotton interior. Than you so much for creating an amazing pattern, well done!. I got mine through Bag of the Month Club.

Thank you so much! Yes I would definitely do a practice one in lighter materials and see how it goes before jumping into using materials that are thicker and less forgiving if seam ripping is needed.

I always prefer to have a zipper closure. 1- I live in a downtown area where we need a zippered closure to keep pick pocketers out and 2- if the bag falls or tips, nothing falls out. The first purse I've ever made had no closure (Swoon's Ethel), so I added magnet closure. Now, I am trying to figure out how to add a zipper to the finished lined purse. I guess I could always add it per usual and leave the raw edge of the zipper tape out so I don't have to unpick the seams. But any future bag I make will have a zippered closure just in case. Thank you so much for the video!

Good to have a D ring on either side - can use karabiners to clip the bag to your belt loops, added security, and takes weight off the shoulders, especially if you're carrying a tote bag on your shoulder. .

Looking for a special backpack/sling style for grgrands. Forgot I purchased your pattern, and discovered your tutorial... I've watched it twice. The many pros of your tutorials: No background music. Minimal hand movement. Clear, concise and most pleasant voice giving instructions. You keep it "real" including corrections as needed. Suggestions for alternatives (I found some dinosaur design print, quilting cotton but I'm going to use it). Reinforcing the correct positions for pattern pieces assembly, great patterns. Cons... I haven't made the bag yet... that's it! Thank you for sharing your time and talent. Greatly appreciated.

What a pretty and functional bag! I do like binding and I will have to try this method. And FYI, Lauren Mormino uses a small screwdriver instead of a stiletto when binding. I’ve not tried it but the screwdriver seems to keep the pleats away by holding down a greater amount of fabric. Congratulations on another great pattern!
