Half agree- as someone who started on a Gamma Progression 200 (330CAD 6+ years ago), I snapped 2 badminton frames from not mounting properly and if you have the extra few hundred dollars, I would also recommend going for a 6 point dropweight or crank. That being said, a very experienced stringer on a 2 point dropweight will still outstring a novice on a 6 point imo.
@kjtennis125414 күн бұрын
I have the Klippermate. Here are few comments: 1. I only string for myself and the results are fine for me. 2. The two point mounting system lets the racquet slide a little bit to the side when under tension, which most likely messes with the tension. 3. It takes some fidgeting and readjustment to get the drop weight arm to stop at horizontal, as described in the instructions. This makes it take longer to string the racquet. 4. It’s ok if you just string for yourself, but I don’t think it’s the machine to base a business on.
@PeterOtmar15 күн бұрын
I completely disagree with you on this. I purchased the Gamma Progression 200 for around $550 in Australia and use it primarily to string my own racquets, along with a few jobs for friends. While it does take longer, it performs well, and I’m quite satisfied with it. If you’re stringing racquets professionally to earn a living, then investing in a better machine would definitely be worth it.

It would be nice to explain why not to buy this. The only argument I hear is that these drop weight machines "feel" less professional and consistent ...are they less consistent? I bought one of them 2 months ago, I had 0 experience in stringing and have strung about 10 rackets. Last 3 of them after measuring have got the planned tension on all strings with a +_0,5 pound deviation. Is this too much?

When you "drop" the string clamp to release the base: aren't you apprehensive because of the nicking of the string? Just releasing the string doesn't "drop" the base, you have to aggressively flick up on the string clamp lever and it flies off the string and theres scope with that rapid movement to nick the string coating. Do you dispute that?
@CossuMaisterАй бұрын
yes, you can damage the coating by releasing the clamp before the base. personally i don't care, i believe it wont effect the string performance in any way. customers might tho, one may not know how strings or rackets work, but one still knows how to judge aesthetics.

I was looking at my machine yesterday (Gamma 9900) and was reminded that one of the racket holding fingers (of two) was very slightly angled off center. It has been this way since I got it. It's not enough to really matter, but yesterday I decided to look at it more carefully and noticed that these finger side angles can be adjusted by rotating the hex carrier they slide in after loosening it. So I realigned the fingers. I also adjusted the table friction which has always been set very low so the table moves more easily than one might want. I'm even more impressed with this stringing machine's adjustability after fine tuning it. The towers move with one knob that moves them in opposite directions so the racket stays centered, and it can handle larger or much smaller rackets without fuss. The four point outside holding Vees tighten with just two knobs so a total of 3 knobs is enough to quickly mount a racket while automatically centering it. There are two other knobs for fine tuning the fingers in/out from the towers but those generally are not required to be adjusted. So 3 knobs instead of the Baiardo's 4 used to mount most rackets. It also has a built in string measuring system which measures to 1/10th of a foot or similar precision in meters. So measuring string or cutting sets precisely is easy and accurate. The Gamma user interface has well labelled buttons so no menus are needed. It seems to have all the usual features and also has memories if one wants to use them. It has a sense of mains and crosses tension that helps to keep organized when different tensions are desired. It has a good table brake and a large tool tray which I have made 3d printed inserts for to organize my tools. I see the current 9900 has drawers as well, my unit is a few years old and doesn't have the drawers, but the tool tray is larger than most and easily holds enough tools. The 9900 also motors up and down to adjust machine height, but it does not angle nor have stringer position memory which the Baiardo does have. That feature is useful when a machine is used by a group of people so they can store their favorite machine adjustments for later recall. For a single stringer this feature is not needed. As I mentioned the other day an option on the 9900 is excellent locking soft rubber casters so the machine can be moved easily and locked into place when in use. When not in use the floorspace can be recovered and used for other things. I did a lot of research when choosing this machine some years ago, I'm still happy with it. I've not needed customer service on this one, however I did have a couple of issues with an earlier Gamma machine and they took care of it and all the shipping costs when that was needed. So customer service was good. Alan B

Question: What is a good tip for preventing new strings from tangling, knotting, and being frustratingly difficult to deal with when trying to string my rackets? I recently had to buy my strings in individual packets since Head stopped making my strings in the reel. Dealing with strings from individual packets are proving to be VERY difficult to work with compared to strings from reels.

@RacketStringingTips3 ай бұрын
@@KDTerry9 So there are 4 things that come to mind are key and you may already being doing them but here they are. 1. Most importantly carefully uncoil strings from package before doing any weaving, let them open up some. 2. You could pre-stretch them some to get the coil action out but if you dont like the feel of pre stretched strings than that wont help but you can try it. 3. you could string two piece, cut set in half, makes it easy and less to pull through. 4. I use my free hand to guide strings along, keep them from tangling up in the machine and uncoil as needed, sometimes if you just pull strings through and they generate friction they tend to get knotted and twisted, so pulling strings through may help. If you make a video of you stringing, you can send to me and I can help more. -patrick

One thing that wasn't mentioned was a table brake. This is needed for the Prince O-Port rackets and it is useful for holding the racket stable for some operations like tying knots. The Prince machines have automatic brakes to help with this.
@RacketStringingTips3 ай бұрын
Yes, I am working on a brief video on helpful features to look for on machines, that is one I am mentioning, very critical, for some of those situations, like the prince o port, even with the o-port tool, I still found myself locking my turntable, at the time those rackets were out, I was stills stringing on Babolat star 3, it had a lock as well.

@RacketStringingTips3 ай бұрын
Thanks for the sub!, I have never played squash, do you string a lot of squash rackets?
@TactileRacquetPerformance3 ай бұрын
Squash is really fun! - It's more complex than racquetball in my opinion, you need a handful of more nuances and touch/finesse. I like to call it the Tennis of Indoors. I do string a lot of squash rackets, since I am a player in my town, and there is only one club to play squash at, I did some networking and let the players I play with know of my skills and when I decided to start doing this as a side business I started stringing for them. I also then handed my cards out to people who I don't play with, as well as the racquetball players at the same club. Some of them come to me, while there is some other players who string too... so I got some competition there. I want to do more videos stringing all the different racquetball frames, and Squash frames I get since I do get a good variety, and aside from Jon's channel, there isn't a lot of visibility or other videos showcasing what it takes to string racquetball, or Squash frames - there's tons of videos stringing tennis rackets out there which is awesome, but some racquetball frames and patterns are pretty wild! I need to setup my area more presentable and start making some more videos :)

What’s the best value right now? Does Baiardo still have a lead now with all these brands moving into the next generation of machines?
@RacketStringingTips3 ай бұрын
good question. As far as quality there are a number of good machines, Wilson included, I think because initially the purpose for Wilson was to produce a tournament grade machine that could withstand a lot of string pulls and be consistent and reliable at professional events, the quality is there but it's not for everyone. Head, Solinco, Technifibre and Dunlop sell machines that are similiar and are priced pretty competitively. When you talk about value, that could be at various price points as well, if you are a home stringer getting started you might find that gamma, alpha or tourna machines provides value at under 2k for electronic machines. Head, Wilson, Babolat, Dunlop, Technifibre and Solinco are competing at a much higher price point 5-7k. Sometimes it comes down to features that you like. Wilson is a big heavy beast, Head, Dunlop more sleek, Babolat more european feel. I like to compare the Babolat with say BMW - simple sleek design, the Wilson I see as a Cadillac (big, comfortable with lots of features - American feel) - maybe bad analogy but when you have worked with enough they just all have different feels and that is where the value is for the individual.
@TactileRacquetPerformance3 ай бұрын
Well put - What machine do you currently use? I had a main Baiardo as well, and that thing is a tank! I like the Cadillac analogy. Quality machine and fun and comfortable to use, but I found for mounting and servicing racquetball frames it wasn't always as accommodating as I'd have liked it to be since the towers aren't adjustable for those really larger size frames.

@TactileRacquetPerformance3 ай бұрын
Nice - what was reasoning for selling your Baiardo? Mine was the towers not adjusting, and wishing it was a little lighter or more portable. After I sold mine, I decided on the current Head machine, the TE-3600 - and I am very happy with it. It has an Autolock brake feature when pulling tension, towers are adjustable, it's lighter, there's no diabolo, it has a self leveler string puller - and it's modular - it can work on it's stand, or if you wanted to take it off the stand, you can plug in the power cord directly to the tension head unit and it will work alone as a table top. It's great and I have no complaints, but I also am not gonna lie, the Babolat Evolution Tour sure does look sweet. Envious of those 360° clamp rails! 🤩

If you could answer a question for me. When I string multifilaments I am always above my set tension on my machine (gamma progression els ii). It is an electric constant tensioning machine. When I check on the apple app for racquet tension if I set it to 45 pounds for example it will come out 49 when I am finished. This doesn't happen when I string polys, it only happens when I string multis. I have done 3 different strings types on 4 different racquets to check my sanity multiple times and it keeps happening. Hi guys. QUESTION: It seems that all four of you use the Wilson Baiardo. Is it so that you all agree that if I am to get the best electronic stringer, you'd recommend this as a general rule? My daughter is a competitive, traveling tennis junior who I suspect will be make it to D1 or even try to go pro at some point. I don't need a travel unit, since we will return home between tournaments (Canada) and can always get stringing done when abroad when needed. Please advise, what is your general recommendation as the best stringer. I have watched much of the video and 90% of the video is discussing things you like but as for recommendations, I am not hearing much in that regard, More analysis, which is great. Please let me know as I am doing much research right now, and have the funds to get the best, so I want the best.
@RacketStringingTips10 ай бұрын
Thanks for the question, well my history using Babolat electronic machines goes back much further than using Wilson's machine. I was introduced to the Baiardo back in 2008 when I strung at the US OPEN and the machine debuted there but was not commercially available yet at that time. I found it to be reliable and a good machine in general and its features align well with what is needed on tour, ergonomics, multiple user settings, consistent machined, decent clamps,etc. Over the last few years a good number of machines have entered the market and I would really look at those before diving into the Wilson pool. Names like Babolat, Alpha, Head, Wilson all have great machines and could be serviced easily if needed. For corporate travel the wilson works fine, but for individual travel from hotel to hotel this machine is way to heavy and bulky. I would look at the new babolat machine or head. In your case traveling some and needing a lighter model, some of the machines can be taken off the stand and put on a desk, such as hotel dresser. Back in the day the Babolat Star 4 was perfect for this, and Priority One stringers used this to string Roger federer's rackets on for many years. You dont need the machine with all the bells and whistles, you need something consistently reliable and availability of parts to fix quickly if an issue arrises. I hope this helped and I am happy to answer any specific questions further.
