I know many Muslim families in USA and Canada. The Syrian and Lebanese Muslims who came to Canada immigrated yo North and South America to make money. They did not come to spread the light of Islam to the people of their new home. Most did their very best to fit in, to assimilate. Many made their living as merch or restaurant owners. They had no qualms about selling alcohol. Most of the early Syrians/Lebanese immigrants knew very little about Islam. They were nominally Muslim. Some brought back wives from their homeland. Others married local women. They often gave their American and Canadian born children Christian first names. Many American and Canadian born children of Syrian/Lebanese immigrants went on to marry local Christian men and women. There are many who are descendants of early Muslim immigrants (those that arrived in the late 1800s to 1960s) who do not identify as Muslims. Early Muslim immigrants spent decades living in in North America before they established masjids. Children of those immigrants grew up with little or no instruction in the faith. Even when the masjid La were built, they were only open a few hours a week. It was not until the 1970s that North American Muslims of Lebanese descent began to make Islam the foundation of their lives rather than something that had little to no relevance to their everyday lives. Sadly there are many thou of people in North America with Muslim ancestors who are non Muslim today because their immigrant grandparents did not feel it was necessary to live in accordance to Islamic principles or teach those or to their children. The early Muslim immigrants were largely materially successful but failed to pass on to future generations faith (Iman).
