My Radiology Professor was Lindsay Rowe, one of the authors and main contributor to Essentials of Skeletal Radiology. He was the Beethoven of teaching Imagery courses. An amazing man, and I'm proud that I could call him a good friend. When Lindsay talked about Paget's Disease, he used Luigi as his example. An abnormal bone growth after adulthood. Often the first symptom is that the hat has become smaller. It would be interesting to compare the facial features on the busts that almost every musician has of him on their piano. The tiny auditory canals laid down new bone, impeding and eventually crushing the Auditory nerve. This would have caused his tinnitus and eventual deafness. Pagets also caused bony growth in the bony joints, and can cause severe arthroses. Beethoven was notorious for ill health, but he must have been suffering the martyr. As Giancarlo was describing his movements at the dress rehearsal, imagine doing this with a crippled body. Beethoven loved his music.

I'd play the fourth movement/finale drum stroke once, loud - and offstage. That way it's both intense and muffled.

Those silly masks…otherwise, nice to hear an interesting piece for viola and piano.

You are the best teacher I've ever had. I remember you liked pieces form Ernesto Lecuona or Manuel de Falla, Albénis, Tarrega. If I remember correctly? I meant to get you those pieces. I know you wouldn't remember me. Unless I'm the only Cuban you've ever met. LoL. It's great to see you and I hope to catch up with you at sometime.

A miracle for real, the 4th movement is more storm than a real loud natural storm, you can feel it approaching from a distance, then it hammers down . Bethooven is very unique as he is very unpredictable, true mind blowing. Nice explanation.

I enjoy hearing Andre Watts talk about music in what was the winter of his career. I saw and met him a few times; he was my piano hero. We miss him very much, now.

I really like the tempi in this performance. This piece has a large sense of urgency, and too many conductors take a leisurely pace.

Very many thanks, Giancarlo. I heard the Cooke 'Performing Version' pretty much as soon as it appeared on record. Since then I've heard (I think) two other versions. I want to re-listen to both, or all three, in light of what you said. As to that drum - a shock, a total disruption, completely unexpected and devastating. Cuts across life itself, compels a different view. Strike that drum with fury and anger! A near - but not quite - mortal blow. I'm thinking of a couple of events in my own life that were as unexpectedly disruptive. I can feel that drum as an event. I've been an (im)perfect Mahlerite since late teenage - now sixty years back. I find his music as fresh as ever. Thanks to Lenny Bernstein's 1961 recording of Mahler 3.

The Violin' s of Hope project came here( Buenos Aires- Arg.) in march 2023, and I attended a concert with one of those violin' s at the Sinagogue negro home, it was really touching !!! thinking of the history of that violin, introduced by the luthier Avshalom Weinstein from Tel Aviv,Who with his father is in charge of restauration!!! of those violins.
