Open reels are awesome. They are what i grew up with, but the baitcaster really shines with certain baits and techniques. It's just another tool for catching fish.

That's the way I remember fishing, in the Potomac around N.Va, and Md., I haven't been fishing in decades....but remember that like ot was yesterday! We used to catch Hellgrammites in the river and tear it up on the small mouth!
