Come away young man, where the ground is red, and you need a mask to breath Oh, it's been so hard But your luck could change If you'd just roll up your sleeves We had tried our best to warn before, but it didn't get you far Now we're here again, with a wish to mend your agonizing scar Open eyes young man, vigilante hands and a heart prepared for pain You will lose much more in this vicious war Past and present stay the same But the time to come can be altered some if you listen to our song But we sing in vain And the fact remains There is no thing can be done. Ah... We're biting our tongues (biding our time) An apparition awoken with an urge to Own and Occupy. Who ever said this was easy? A majesty's massacre floods the fields of red, Blood to your body naturally rushes the blood to your head. To your head! And now With our hands in line These arms move tonight And we cry: "we can not allow this, this is terrible" With ideals we're idle as they lust for more. If we settle the score We've never been so excited to see you before! In the cradle we're helpless, But on our feet we are fatal How we evolve and grow into Twisted beasts with desire for disorder! Oh what a terrible, terrible game we play Replacing a pawn for a body and the players: politicians who say what they need to say. [instrumental] Now With hands in line Arms move tonight Here With abrasive eyes Pain in plain sight And we cry: "we can not allow this, this is terrible" With ideals we're idle as they lust for more. Woah, when we settle the score We've never been so excited to see you before... oh, when i think about your eyes oh, when i think about your smile oh, when i dream about your lies traveled all this way just to find love...

It took me years to figure it out, but I just realized that the people singing in Writing On A Wall are the oracles from the Delphi Express

The oracles are peppered all throughout the acts. So amazing. Casey's a genius.

got some good news for ya then, the first song from every album from that point on is the oracles saying "hey, you know that thing you're about to do, don't do it, you're an idiot"

@@Tim_Kepple I never felt like the Oracles were warning him well in Act II, telling him to lose his morals. Unless they were hoping to spare him the pain of heartbreak?

@@johnbuscher yeah, it seems like that's exactly what they were doing, just giving him advice to not end up getting involved in The City, all the way up to deciding to leave him alone to sort out his own problems in Regress since he always did what they warned him not to

+Nick Jones Not that I'm aware of. I think it is more an intro into the next song.
@EvanOdson8 жыл бұрын
+Nick Jones Like Seymor said, this is a transition, much like the role of a chorus in an opera. It's meant to set the stage, if you will, and paint the tone/mood of the next scene. It's quite beautiful, and if you're wondering, the next song is What It Means To Be Alone. This album, like all of the acts, are meant to be listened to from beginning to end, because each track transitions and develops into the next. It's brilliant stuff!

Instrumentation is just fine . . . but the vocals. What the fuck? Even with a dedicated room and 2.1 listening setup that would cause envy in most, "diction" is still the only word that comes to mind listening to this. So is "mixing." Anyway, it tries to be interesting . . . musically it has momentum and interest, but lyrically and vocally its a waste.
@jameslyon940510 жыл бұрын

Seems like your trying to be a music buff but you dont know the meaning of the words your using. whats diction mean kid?
@gregoryfelton170010 жыл бұрын
James Lyon You're, not your. And there should be a period at the end of any sentence. I hate to play grammar Nazi but with irony demanding I mock you, this dude abides. Ah, so you don't know what diction is. You could have saved the trouble by using one of many search engines to figure it out, but between this and your other comment I can see pragmatism is lost on you. Diction is the choice and articulation of words in speech and singing. In the context of this song I am not a fan of singing that is nasally or over-produced in the throat; it "Americanizes" the vowels, sounds immature / whiny, and is overall fairly boring. Kid? That's cute. I wonder if my 23 years of experience on stage and in studios is more time than you've been alive, but I'm only basing that on the overall irascible and idiotic comments you've made.

Lobotomy .Stitches This video isn't the best quality version of the track, so that could be part of the issue if you were listening to this. In terms of critical analytical depth these lyrics are great. It weaves and intriguing story with a healthy amount of symbolism and wordplay. I don't sing, and don't know much about delivery so I'll defer to your conclusions about it. I will say that as someone who listens to a lot of music, from a lot of genres, with lots of different and unique voices I didn't have much trouble following the lyrics and I quite enjoyed his singing.
